Chef Mickey's Seating Question

This will be our first time at Chef Mickey's.

I've heard that you could end up sitting away from all the entertainment with the characters. Is there a way I can make sure we're in the midst of it all? We are celebrating a birthday that night, should I mention this when making the PS, or when we check in for our PS?
Also, can you see the monorail from inside the restaurant?

If there is a specific seating area you want, I'd ask when you check in for the PS. You might have to wait until a table is available though.

You can request an area when booking your PS but they do not guarentee it. You best bet is to ask for a table in the center of it all at check-in. If you are not happy where you table is ... by all means tell the CM before you sitdown and request another table.

The monorail is at least one floor about you. You should be able to see it entering and leaving the CR.

The characters move from room to room ( or area to area, that is) so you shouldn't have a problem getting a visit from each of them in turn. They will come to you eventually! You probably won't be able to literally see the characters the whole time you are seated, no matter where they put you because the restaurant is kinda divided into areas. The only "entertainment" from the characters is a table visit. They do stop and sing the "celebrate" song when the restaurant plays it, but the whole restaurant sings so it's not like you'll miss something no matter where you sit.

I would tell the staff at check-in that you are having a birthday and mention it to your server as well when you are seated.

I also just want to add, we have never been disappointed no matter where we sit at Chef Mickey's. We've sat on the very "far right" side....close to Concourse Steakhouse....and last time, we had the corner table in the far left of the restaurant....a table that many people would say is remote and out of the way and undesireable! But in all honesty, we were happy with every single table and never felt like we were short-changed.
As Tinks said, the only "entertainment" is the singing, with the characters parading through the restaurant.....and we all got some "high-fives." Of course, there's also the individual character table visits.
Honestly, there's some much anxiety when it comes to planning a Disney trip, I really wouldn't worry about where you sit at Chef Mickey's. You'll all love it. It is our favorite place for breakfast!! Have fun.

We love Chef Mickeys (dinner) and we have sat in several areas and never been disappointed. We actually prefer not to sit in the middle of all the hubbub (like near the buffet) because there are too many people walking around.

The characters come to you, and the "celebration" is done in every area.

I think you can see the monorail from the restaurant...I can't remember!!

When we were at Chef Mickeys the Characters moved from room to room and made sure that they saw everyone.

we were seated in the area behind the buffet that is up a few steps. It was horrible. We sat there and watched the characters visit all the other areas 3 times. The server from the table next to ours eventually went and made them come up there where we were. The food was uneatable and the service non existent. I will never eat there again.

I'm very particular about where I sit. We just ate at Chef Mickeys on Sunday night, June 27th. Upon check in, I asked to sit in the "main dining room" (the large room with the windows). We've eaten in other rooms, but I personally like this one best for feeling in the midst of it. They gave us the room we requested without having to wait at all (I've always found Disney to be very accomodating). The food and characters are very good here. I have been unhappy with the service the last few visits though. Enjoy!

One good thing about sitting a little out of the way is you will get better character interaction. Every time we are at a character dinner and we are in the "middle of things" there are always stray kids that try to butt into your character time and lots of parent's milling around not stopping them. Our best character interactions were when we sat out of the way. There was more character time and we didn't feel rushed with the characters. My favorite is Donald's Breakfastasourous when the three of use were seated in the airstream camper. These are huge wrap around booths that could seat 6+ and it was just me and my kids. It felt like we were the only ones in the restaurant and we had some quiet interaction with the characters.

I agree! Do not let them seat you in one of the little side rooms! As long as you're in the main dining room, it's a blast but once we sat in another room and we were there for an hour and had finshed eating before we finally got characters to come over to us! I don't remember being particularly impressed or disgusted by the food but really was there for the fun anyway!

We will be a group of 9 at chef mickey's for my sons birthday dinner. Is there tables that sit this many in the main dining room?
We've only been here once and never knew there were different rooms. Guess i better ask to be in the main room when we get there then.
