We are a party of 6 - me and my dh, my parents and my two children, dd 8, ds 4. We are arriving on a Sat morning and won't be in the park until Sun. I have a 5:10 ADR for Chef Mickey's for 5:10 and an ADR for Kona at 8:10. Which would you keep and which would you cancel? We have three additional character meals (1900 Park Fare, Crystal Palace, Liberty Tree Tavern) and two more adult meals - Coral Reef and Alfredo's.

Its our first day and other than enjoying the resort, this will be our event for the day.

Any suggestions are very welcome.
Julie :)

We ate at both places on our trip in July and liked them both but for totally different reasons. Chef Mickey's is really loud and really silly. The food is decent buffet food--not gourmet at all and sometimes the buffet lines are long. The atmosphere is somewhat hectic due to napkin twirling, dancing, Mickey and pals, and nosy music.

Kona is classy and nice off the Polynesian lobby. The food is definitely good and less typical than Chef Mickey's. Desserts are really really good here.

I'd say it's really your call about which you'd like. Since you have lots of character meals planned, the kids probably won't be neglected if you dump CM in favor of Kona, but then seeing Mickey and his friends (we saw Minnie, Goofy, Chip 'n' Dale, and Donald at our dinner) is a fun way to get a trip started.

On our next trip, we'll probably do both of these places again--CM for the kids, Kona for DH and me.

I'd go for Kona, for us it was an excellent meal (and it's not like Chef Mickey's was to be your only character meal).

When you are done, you may want to go down to the Poly beach and watch the fireworks (or if you prefer the air conditioning like I do, hang around the big windows of the lounge and watch from inside, they pipe the music in there as well).

If you want delicious food, go with Kona. Some of the best food I have ever eaten!

We have been to Chef Mickey's several times, and, in my opinion, the food gets worse each year. However, the atmosphere is truly fun for little ones. So you have to decide what is more important to you on your Disney vacation...quality of food or atmsophere? It is a tough choice when you have kids.

Because you already have character meals, I suggest Kona Cafe. It's pretty quiet, and has very nice food.

We just ate at Kona on Monday night and Chef Mickey's yesterday. (arrived home very early this morning)

Kona was just wonderful! Everything we had was fantastic. We were a party of 7 on the dining plan, and every single one of our meals was wonderful. The service was great. The presentation of the food was nice. Quality was very good. With an 8:10 ADR, you would have time to catch Wishes from the Poly beach, which is a very nice place to watch it from. Relaxing and not crowded, plus they play the music/sound for the show. Room to let the kids roam and be themselves, especially after a tiring travel day.

Chef Mickey's was fun, loud, a good way for the kids (2 in our group) to let loose and party Mickey style. The food was typical buffet/cafeteria quality. Not bad, but not fantastic. We did have a lot of fun though!

Kona it is! Thanks for all the info. I'm really excited because I LOVE TO EAT!!!

Julie
