Chef Mickey's or Kona for last day?

Our trip is a few weeks away, and I'm having second thoughts on Chef Mickey's. We have Chef Mickey's Breakfast (8:45 ADR) reserved for our last day (day 6) on our last MK day. I chose it because I'd heard so much about it and figured we should do it just once. DS5 loves breakfast foods. DD6 and I can take it or leave it, and DH does not eat breakfast. At all. :confused3

Even though we are on the Free Dining Plan, I'm starting to second guess spending that much money (or 1TS credit) on a breakfast buffet that we'll barely touch. I've heard Chef Mickey's food isn't the greatest anyhow and it's more about the characters. I figured by Day 6 we will have seen Mickey and Minnie several times over in the parks, so it won't have much oomph to it.

Which leads me to the idea of replacing it with Kona for dinner. Like I said, we'll be in MK that day, and if I'm correct it's not that difficult to get to Kona from MK. I think we would enjoy a nice, more quiet meal (with great food!) for our last night in the World and one where we'll get our money's worth. We might even head back to MK for EMH (my Kona ADR is for 6:20 pm).

So, if you've done Chef Mickey's and/or Kona, what would you choose for your last TS meal? Here is my most updated plan if you need more information.

Sunday- L @ Columbia Harbour , D @ T-Rex (oop)
Monday- L @ Sunshine Seasons, D @ Akershus
Tuesday- L @ Flame Tree, D @ Boma
Wednesday- L @ Wolfgang Puck Express, D @ Hoop-de-doo Revue
Thursday- L @ Backlot Express, D @ 50's Prime Time
Friday- B @ Chef Mickey's, L @ Cosmic Rays, D @ Kona (gotta choose b/t B and D)

TIA! :dance3:

We have been to both and the food is amazing at Kona.
If they do not want traditional breakfast food just order the fruit dish. It comes in a 1/2 pinapple kids will love the look and delicious.
Pinapple macadamia nut butter pancakes are awesome....
less expensive I usually pay OOP for this even when I am on the dining plan...

Thanks. We would be going to Kona for dinner instead of breakfast if we chose Kona. But boy do those Kona breakfast foods sound good! ;)

If you guys arent big on breakfast, it would be a waste. As you said, the ressie is at the end of your trip and by that time you would have seen mickey and minnie a million times. Honestly, chef mickeys breakfast isnt very good in my opinion. I didnt like the food, the quality of food, the selection, and the atmosphere of the place. I HIGHLY recommend you go to Kona for dinner instead. They are FAR FAR better than Chef Mickeys. Again, my opinion. Your gut is telling you to ditch Chef Mickeys.....i would listen. :)

Chef Mickey's for last day because it's so much fun and all the characters are there, the food is okay, but the atmosphere is fun! ::MickeyMo:goofy:::MinnieMo

Not a choice, but what about Crystal Palace before park opening or even for lunch or dinner? No leaving the park.

But breakfast sounds like a waste for your group. I would go with Kona.

Thanks guys. It's going to be hard for me to cancel my Chef Mickey's ADR only because I'm so wishy washy. I'll release it soon. It might make another family's day!

Strictly because you have two small children, I'd opt for Chef Mickey on your last day. But that's the only reason. I like the idea of "one last hurrah" before you leave.

I would go to Kona, I think the food is much better than CM.

I love the CR and Chef Mickey's... but, with that being said, Kona for sure ! :wizard:

I am not a big breakfast/buffet eater, though my kids loved Chef Mickeys. I would do Kona, had dinner here and it was really good!!!

Food-wise, I prefer to Kona to CM...but not by a ton.

With little kids, I would absolutely go to Chef Mickey's.

Kona is fine, but it isn't all that. I eat there when I'm staying at the Poly, but I wouldn't make a special trip to go there or anything.

Sounds like half of your family really isn't into breakfast...therefore I would have a hard time justifying paying buffet prices at CM. Yes the atmosphere would be fun, but I would rather put my money to going to a restaurant that the majority of the group would really enjoy.

IMHO I would select Kona over CM in a heartbeat...the sticky wings and the delicious kilauea torte at Kona are worth the price of admission. :thumbsup2

Kona is amazing. We loved our dinner there back in 2008, very fresh and filling. We have it booked for breakfast on our last day (OOP) because I really want to try it as everything sounds wonderful.

My vote is for Kona. Try the tuna oscar or the pomegranate barbecued pork chop. Both are fabulous.

Both choices are good.

Keep in mind, you might not get to see Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and all the other Chef Mickey characters while at the parks ... at least not to level you will at Chef Mickeys. Being this is your final day and last chance to meet any characters Chef Mickeys might be a good way to insure you don't miss them.

If we hadn't had dinner at Chef Mickey's we would not have met any of those characters at the park except for Mickey at the theater. I did not want to spend my time in the hot sun waiting in line for a character. The only other time we saw Minnie was at a show on the castle steps. The only other time we saw goofy was on a parade float. We saw Donald & Pluto meeting people out in the parks once each but that was it. This is not a popular opinion, but maybe you'd want to hang onto the reservation until you get there to see if you need it.

I think you can get good food at places other than Disney. You can't eat with the characters other places, though.

I really liked Sunshine Seasons & had some great cheesecake there. Hoop Dee Doo was great, too. I could have eaten the butter with a spoon- not to mention the whipped cream. I really liked my bacon wrapped meatloaf at Wolfgang Puck Express. I would make sure & have those 2 meals far apart so you're not too full for dinner from lunch.

If you want a loud, fun last experience with the characters and "meh" food, then go with Chef Mickey's.

If you want a relaxing, quieter dining experience with excellent food - then go with Kona.

:)
