Chef Mickeys or 1900 Park Fair?

Our first night of our trip we are not going to any parks. I planned on doing a character dinner just to get in the spirit. There are 5 children with us,
girl 10, two boys-- 6 and 7, a girl--3, and a one year old boy. We are doing the Princess breakfast at Epcot later in the week. The first night I originally planned going to 1900 Park Fair. I am wondering if Chef Mickey's would have more of a party atmosphere. Help.

I have been to both restaurants for dinner and liked both of them. Considering that you are going to a princess breakfast later in the week, I would choose Chef Mickey's. The Contemporary is an awesome resort and they would get to see a lot of the "classic" characters at CM's. I think this would be a great way to kick off your vacation and both the girls and the boys would enjoy it!

I would also go with Chef Mickey's because you get the classic characters like Mickey, Minnie, Goofy & Donald.

We have been to both and while both are fun they are different.
I thin k Boys will like the athomphere at Chef Mickey's more. A little louder and festive!

Not to highjack the thread, but I was just thinking about this today. I have 2 boys and will be there the first week of Dec. I was considering doing both Chef Mickey's and 1900's Fare mainly because I wanted to see the Gingerbread house at Grand Flordian but didn't want to "waste" a trip out there just for that and my oldest wants to go to Chef Mickey's. Do you think the boys (5 and 1) will get anything out of 1900's Fare or should I scrap that idea.

1900 PF has a nice dinner, but not sure how much boys enjoy it. I have two DDs, so I can't help you with that. I don't think you need to do a dinner at GF though to see the gingerbread house. Plan to go to the GF via the monorail on the day you are eating at Chef Mickeys or on a day that you are at the MK. From what I have heard, the deluxe resorts are decorated the best at the holidays. I don't think going to the GF just for the gingerbread house would be a waste.

We went to the GF just to see the gingerbread house, and other decorations, hopped back on the monorail and went to the Poly to see what they had going on, then back on the monorail for the Contemporary. It doesn't take a lot of time, and it's really fun to see all the fun decor.

But what I would do is on the MK day, afterwords, hop on the monorail go enjoy the dinner at Chef Mickeys (CR is the first stop) then get back on the monorail and enjoy the stuff at Poly (next stop excluding ttc) then at GF. Then just mono back to MK and go from there

We did the same thing, but in reverse order. We had our dinner at CM, which was a great way to kick off our vacation and then stopped at the GF. OP- I agree that stopping at the GF is well worth the time during the Christmas Season. The Gingerbread House is just part of the decorations, and they are lovely.

ETA- I forgot to add that with the group you have with you, I would choose CM for a meal. My family enjoyed 1900 PF, but you have boys. Sitting through two princess meals, even with one thaty is a lot of fun, I don't know. Chef Mickey's is a lot of fun for everyone.

Thanks for the replies! I think I will take the advice and after we eat at Chef Mickey's head to the Poly and GF to check out the decorations. I didn't even think about the fact we would be right there with the monorail anyways.

Well, I just have to say I loved them both. My DS is older (27), and he said he liked 1900 Park Fare better. He loved getting his picture taken with all those women (characters). We did CM's in the morning, and 1900 Park Fare for dinner on my birthday last week. Both have great atmospheres, and the food is really good. I will have to post some pictures when I finish unpacking.

We always do CM's, but this was our first time at 1900 Park Fare. It is definitely on our must eat at list now.

We had the same dilemma. We chose Chef Mickey's because the characters were more to our liking.
