Chef Mickey's Honest Opinions

I consider myself a Disney veteran, however we've never been to Chef Mickey's. In October we will be staying at CR, so I feel like now is the time since we will be right there. I've heard many mixed reviews. Is one meal better than another? Should we just skip it and go to The Wave? My boys are 6 and 8. Right now, I'm leaning towards breakfast but I would love to hear about others recent experiences. TIA!

I too am hoping for responses as well. DD16 and myself have breakfast schedule in August at Chef Mickey's and this will be the first time we will be eating there. We have done several character breakfasts in the past but first time we were able to get Chef Mickey's but we will miss RD by going so hoping its worth it.

We did breakfast... That had better reviews than dinner, (you can't really screw up a Mickey waffle)...

DD loved it! (6) it's the fab 5 and they dance and play and I thought the rotations were the fastest...(based on other places)

It is a must for us if/when we go back...

There are so many folks here who do not like Chef Mickey's, but we've eaten there several times for breakfast and dinner and we've never had a bad meal there. We're not ridiculously picky, but I've never felt like the food or Character interaction was sub-par.

At breakfast, they have these cheese blintzes that are so yummy and their cheesy potato casserole is a family favorite too. We always love a bagel with smoked salmon and they have a really good selection of that stuff - always so fresh.

At dinner time, my favorites are their salmon and they've got these cheesy mashed potatoes that are the best! Their ribs are good too!

So happy I found this thread, I was wondering about others thoughts as well. It is the only character meal we have never done and are going this time!

There's no way I'd give up RD to do Chef Mickey's!!! The chance to ride a bunch of rides with little to no wait, some of the quietest time in the park? No way!

My biggest problem with the place was the cleanliness--or lack thereof. Food all over the floor. Food mixed with other food on the buffet. Food strewn all over the buffet. Kids running wild and no one watching them. Reaching into food on the buffet with bare hands. And this was on more than one trip.

Food is edible--if you can get past the gross factor. Characters are fun, but you can meet them in other places. If you've got the dining plan, okay. If you're paying out of pocket, it's crazy expensive. Long wait past ADR time for a table. Inattentive, overworked staff.

Breakfast may have been a tad better than dinner but neither one worth returning to.

I was wary about going based on reviews from this site. We have always gone for breakfast, and it's good. I have never found it to be messy or the food not at a good temp. The service has always been excellent too. Our servers have made sure we didn't miss any characters when we were at the buffet. It is a little hectic (which seems to be the biggest complaint), but I think that's what the atmosphere is supposed to be. Nothing is better than seeing all the kids (not just my own) so excited to see their favorite characters. It's usually one of our first breakfasts, and it sets the mood of excitement for the whole trip.

We had breakfast there and I was pleasantly surprised. It was very enjoyable and had good variety. I wouldn't try lunch or dinner though, I'm just not much of a buffet fan.

We've been twice for breakfast, albeit way too many years ago, and really enjoyed it both times. The food was quite adequate and the character interaction was fantastic. Mickey in particular was in top form on our last visit (2010). I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

We go every single trip as our Farewell to Mickey dinner and we love it. The food is good, the service has always been fantastic - even warranting a note to Disney to recognize one server in particular - and the environment is just a blast. It's loud and crazy so if you don't want that then definitely book elsewhere. Also if you're looking for a more foodie experience. But for a good time, call :)

I have never had an issue with Chef Mickeys. But I also don't expect a gourmet meal. I have only done dinner and love the Parmesan mashed potatoes. I really don't see how you can mess up breakfast either. The characters are fun. I would say go for it

We skipped it for years and then went last March for breakfast. Sorry, but I will never go again. I found the food to be cold and not very good, some of it almost inedible. The place was filthy. The server was fine but obviously harried. And yes we go all the characters for less than a minute as they whizzed by. We do a lot of Disney cruises so we see all the characters that way. I'm not expecting a gourmet experience but I do expect the food to be warm and edible. Our favorite character experience is park fare. The food is great and the characters actually interact with the tables.

I haven't done breakfast, but dinner is one of my favorite meals, that's for sure!!
We've always found hot fresh & delicious food on the buffet, and had great interaction. Sure, it's loud and hectic, but thats pretty true for any character meal.

We've probably had 8-10 dinners there. Our teen DD's love it - variety for everyone. We like to pick the earliest available dinner time - less wait prior to ADR, fresher food, and maybe that's why we haven't had issues with cleanliness. We are going again this August. We think CM 'screams Disney' with the fab 5 and the monorail going through resort.

We always use Chef Mickey's as a great arrival day activity. I do not want to waste a park ticket on just a few hours, so we go to Chef Mickey's for dinner and then ride the Monorail around once or twice. Kids love it. DH hates it (too loud). Food is on par with a Hometown Buffet or maybe slightly better than a Golden Corral, but you are paying $40/adult rather than $12. Disney Magic.

Chef Mickey's is icky. That is my honest opinion. If you HAVE to go, do breakfast. It's hard to screw up breakfast.

If you want the classic gang and edible food, check out Tusker House over at AK.

We were impressed with Tusker House. The food was good and they were great with my kids allergies.
