Chef Mickey's has totally slipped!

Boma's is in the same price range, and it is better. CM is resting on its former laurels.

Boma is actually cheaper, and the food is SO MUCH better. But, no characters. Chef Mickey's price keeps on going up. Although we liked our dinner, I'm really glad we managed to go in October and not at Christmas time. Mickey or not, $34/person for what we ate would have been highway robbery. From what I've heard so is CRT though.

We are considering Chef Mickey's for April because my DS wants to eat with Mickey Mouse - I take it there's nowhere else we can dine with the big mouse himself :confused3

Mickey is at Garden Grill and breakfast at 'Ohana. He also used to be at Donald's at AK but not sure if he still is at the new location.

Garden Grill is my boys' favorite character meal and is a relatively good deal at lunch ... the only thing different from dinner is the appetizer salad.

Don't worry about the posting here too much to alter your plan.
If this is the first time for you and your son, it is definitely worth to try.

none of us on this board is PROFESSIONAL food critique. I had a chance to talk with NY times food critique for diferent occasion. He told me that one of the most difficult part of his job is to judge the food quality without any preconception.
however, he told me that it is so hard once he get very good impression to the restautant very beginning because he had to wipe out the positive image from his head to taste food at same restaurant one more time to make sure the restaurant can serve great quality or not. professional has hard time to do it, so I am assuming it is hard to anyone here(if some one here is professional food critique, sorry). we are just posting our PERSONAL impression, which would never go beyond our pearsonal realm. I've seen a lot of positive comment about CM and unfortunately a lot of people are complaing about Cm at same time. I belive both side are right, but it never apply to your personal judgement toward CM unless you try at least once.

Personally, I believe CM is great restaurant to visit. Food quality, I am not sure. I am living in NYC area so if I want to taste great food, I won't go any restaurant at WDW. I would go to manhattan. However, restaurant at WDW has their own themes, nobody else can provide. CM is one of the most theme oriented restaurant, especially for young kids. For me, to get such experience and see my kids hugging Mickey and Minnie without waiting at line, $35/person is VERY cheap.(well, comparing to restaurant in NYC, it's cheap;) )

I have been going to WDW and Chef Mickey's for years and I can tell you, this place has not only slipped but it is in danger of making Hometown Buffet look like gourmet offerings. For example, Ohana's is actually priced lower than CM and the food is better. Boma's is in the same price range, and it is better. CM is resting on its former laurels.

I know, I know. I just want to point out that there are price range of Table restaurant are over priced no matter where you go at WDW.

I personally like the place( not because of food, I like atmosphere ) and I have no intention to go to Ohana or Boma because for me it is not worth to pay more than 10 bucks for that type of food/atmosphere. I would save money to get something better for me and my family. It is just different taste/personal preference.

I am 100% sure that the food quality was getting lower at CM like you mentioned. But after reading similar type of complaint toward some restaurant, I always wonder that it is just issue of particular restaurant or it is the issue of overall quality/service at entire WDW. If it is caused by the overall WDW quality issue, don't you think it is unfair to conclude as
"CM is not worse to try"? Because all other restaurant quality is getting lower at same time.

I think that Mickey appears at the TS restaurant in the Land (Garden Grill) at Epcot ::MickeyMo.

There are WDW restaurants that have maintained their quality; Bomas, California Grill, and while a non Disney restaurant, Portobello Yacht Club is still a favorite that has consistantly good food. Ohana's is not as good as it once was, but it the food is decent. If your only goal is to have dinner with the mouse, then there isn't much of a choice. Given that, I think I would settle for a grossly overpriced breakfast when compared to an outrageously priced buffet for dinner.

Well, I've officially changed my Chef Mickey resv from dinner to breakfast. I know it's all a matter of opinion, but there sure are A LOT of bad reviews for the dinner. In my case it actually works out better for us this way anyhow. The whole week we're doing a TS dinner/day, so now we'll have our TS out of the way and be free for the day.

This was always one of my favourite buffets and it was a tradition to go at every visit. (My first visit to WDW was in 1976). Because my travels have taken me elsewhere in the last 4 years I was so excited to be going back to WDW in 2008 but this is one tradition that I won't be keeping up. I don't want my memories ruined :guilty:

We thought Chef Mickey's was horrible too, but DD4 wants to bring the new baby there, so we are doing breakfast. The food, service and characters here are very sub-par, but it will more than likely stay this way because most people are coming to see Mickey and Disney knows that to some people, this is invaluable, so they don't have much incentive to improve things.

The same can be said for Liberty Tree Tavern - when I'm paying those prices for stuffing out of a box (we have allergies and chef comes to table, and indeed assured us that most of the food there is packaged), I won't be back. Daughter wanted to go back as she loved having Goofy play with her at our table, but we just won't do it. For all of us though who won't be back to certain restaurants, there are tons of people to fill our spots and that's why Chef Mickey's will continue to draw in crowds, despite the fact the food is horrible, wait times even with ADRs are out of this world, and service is not good at all.

We've never been to Chef Mickey's, but that's primarily because the "food is average at best" description is typical of reviews since I joined this board.

Chef Mickey's used to be our only "must do" of every trip. Last Christmas we ate an early dinner there. It was AWFUL. Sadly, we won't be back to Chef Mickey's.
