We like CM for breakfast but not dinner then again I am not a dinner buffet person - I prefer my food not messed around with by strangers

I don't have the same issues at breakfast as the food doesn't look "messy"

Plus the expected tip for CM is ridiculous as it is priced so high - I don't think I would use a TS or OOP to eat dinner there. (and I am aware I don't have tip the expected amount but as I know in advance I would rather avoid it than be seen s one of "those Brits that doesn't understand tipping")

Oh the dreaded "tipping" issue. I'm afraid I am a Brit who tips according to how good an experience I've had. I had SUCH a good experience at Harvest Bistro restaurant at Hilton Bonnet Creek hotel where we were staying last time that I left some ridiculously high amount because it truly was deserved but on the other hand, I had a ludicrously bad experience in the same place a few days later so I didn't leave a tip at all. I know it's not the done thing esp in the US but I think if you can't be bothered doing a job properly then you don't deserve anything on top of your wages.

Don't want to start a riot. But tips are part of US servers wages not just an additional luxury. You should call a manager if you are not satisfied with the service.

Actually I'm glad you made of point of saying that because I wasn't aware of that before. In some respects though I would've thought that would make them work harder to ensure you were more than satisfied but I hear what your saying so thanks again for pointing it out

You've been to the US before and you didn't know about the tipping culture?

I knew about the fact tipping was expected everywhere and I knew how much percentage wise etc but always thought that was on top of whatever wages they were getting. In fact, I know loads of people who frequently travel to US and my brother lived over there and doubt any of them know either.. I'm going to ask all of them to find out how many if any do know though

Does it make a difference? If it's part if the culture you should respect the culture without the local residents needing to break it down and justify it. Just my 2c

The minimum wage in Florida is currently $7.93 per hour for regular employees however if they are in a tipped position which servers are considered to be the minimum wages is only $4.91. It has improved in recent years as couple of years ago it was $2-3 an hour.

Even when service is bad leaving no tip is considered rude or being British they assume you don't understand. The solution to bad service is either speak to a manager or leave a small tip and a note if you can not speak to the manager.

I am very happy to tip well for excellent service - our last visit to YS our check was $120 and our server got an automatic 18% as we used our TIW card but I also left him an extra $20 in cash

My favourite saying for tipping - "when in rome" - might not like it, might not agree with it but at the end of the day its their culture and we are only visitors.

I'm happy to take on board all your comments and I'm sure all the servers in the US appreciate you making the point for anyone who, like me, wasn't aware of the facts. We live and learn and all that
