On arrival day, I had planned for my DS5 and I to head straight to MK and then have dinner at Chef Mickey. We arrive at the airport in Orlando at 12:30. We will take Magical Express to the Grand Floridian. I plan on us going straight to MK. We can have dinner at Chef Mickey either at 6:40 or 8:45. I have 8:45 booked already, but the 6:40 time slot has just opened up. I am thinking about grabbing it because I don't want to tire out my DS too much on the first day.

The only thing is I have a Seven Dwarfs Mine Train FP at 6:30, and it is the only time slot open for that day. Do you think 8:45 is too late? Should I just forget the FP and do dinner at 6:40? We are from Texas, so Orlando is an hour ahead of us, so I was thinking the 8:45 won't be too late for us, but I'm still undecided.

Opinions welcome!

I would not try to keep a 5 yo waiting for dinner until 8:45 on an arrival night, even considering the hour difference. I like the Mine Train, but If you let him get overtired the first night you may doom the next day. I would take the earlier meal.

I'm going to agree with Nancy56, 8:45 is late for a kid, hell it's late for ME! The only way I could even consider the later time would be if there might be lunch and a substantial snack around your usual dinner time. But with the later time, you face the prospect of gorging on the buffet, and then going to bed. OTOH, if your son is like a 5 yr. old I know, there will only be a small amount of food consumed. ;)

I think you both are right! I was about to change the time, but the 6:40 is gone now. I may just forget Chef Mickey's and just eat at MK the first night. DS loves Chef Mickey, though, and we did arrival night last year, and he asked to do it again this year. Maybe an earlier time will open up!

Yeah, keep checking. Something will probably open up. :earsboy:

we are from texas too and our arrival night dinner is past 8:00. He will be so excited and in a state of awe that I doubt 8:45 is too late. Just get him a good lunch to hold him over. We ALWAYS do a late dinner on our first day at the park and we have never had a problem. (My girls are 9 and 5)

To be honest, 7:45 is still late for us. You might not be seated right away either. Having a buffet and all that food that late at night wouldn't work for us. But glad you are happy with it, have a great trip!

Our little boy has never been a "sleeper" He goes to bed every night between 9:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. and gets up at 6:30 a.m. with no naps, and this is his school schedule. He stays up later during the summer.

We have two college-aged children -- well, I guess adults now -- and they were nappers and early-to-bed kids, so we've been on both sides. With this one, we actually have to make sure he is involved in plenty of physical activities at home just to have him in bed and asleep by 9:00 - 9:30. He's in karate, swimming and soccer. Add in Disney, and, of course, he seems to want to rest even less, so 7:45 is good for us!

Talk about a shocker when he was born! I was used to 12 hours at night and two-hour naps well into school-aged with my other two kids. He didn't even sleep a full night until right before he turned one.
And he stopped taking any kind of nap at 2 1/2.
