Chef Mickey for supper- Blech

O.k., I don't mean to be rude, but I must confess that like your waiter, I too LOL at this one, and am continuing to snicker intermittently. I know I wouldn't want it in my salad, and you're right, it is a very gross and unsanitary concept (right up there with a post that described a child being allowed to sneeze repeatedly over food at a concierge table). I guess I'm just picturing the whole scenario, amidst the napkin-waving frenzy of CM's, of table saying, "Waiter, there's ham with a bite in my salad!" And the waiter telling you to just bite it back, or some such nonsense...

I will say that despite the hot/cold posts for CMs our family decided to try it for dinner on our last trip. We had some picky family members with us who don't typically like buffet (and they didn't care for pre-plated at Garden grille, for example, either) -- but they have already asked if we can go there again next trip! It was a hit for all 8 (4 adults and 4 kids). Hot food was hot, cold food was cold, and we left stuffed to the gills! I will agree with a previous poster in that we too arrived at an early seating. I think buffet food tends to get repleninshed but not replaced (i.e., they add to the top, but do they always remove the old?) so we always try to eat early.

another "I hate it" vote here. How could I leave with a smile on my face when I was still hungry, had a huge headache from the noise and had just wasted about $100 on the horrible experience.

While planning our trip for 2002 I decided to post a poll here myself to see if I could be pusuaded to return to CM. Well the responses were about 70% against CM.

Good for all of you that hate it. Please do us all a favor and stop going back, you make it harder for those who like it to get a PS's.
:bounce: :Pinkbounc  ::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

sha_lyn, I had to laugh when I read your post. In your message you say that you couldn't leave with a smile, but doesn't your tagline say to laugh or you go insane? ::laughing: AND, the rest of this reply is not meant personally towards you. Don't want you to think I'm speaking only to you.

Having not been to CM, I can't say what it is like. However, these are my expectations. This will be a noisy place to eat, there will be quite a few characters running around, children will be more interested in characters than food, and I won't expect too many couples that are there for romantic purposes. With that being said, don't most people go there because of the atmosphere and not the food? Yeah, you want to be fed, but do people choose it for the food? Doesn't that come second? If I leave CM and we didn't laugh at the characters or we didn't get to interact with the characters, then I'll feel like we've wasted our money.

You know what's great about dining at WDW? There are 100s of restaurants, and what one Guest may love, another may hate, and vice versa.

That being said, we ate at Chef Mickey's last January, as the kickoff to our 10 day trip. It was 4 adults, one child, and we had a very early PS (I think right at 5pm).

Was it loud and frantic? YES ::yes::

Did we have a good time? YES ::yes::

Will we be back? YES YES YES ::yes::

We thought the food was fine. NOT gourmet by any stretch, but plentiful, yummy, and at the appropriate temperature.

I've already made our PS to return this January.

Yes, you are there for the characters, but I can see characters and have much better food. It is a good place to see characters if you want to stay out of the parks.

Since I will continue to eat there because of my DS, I sure am glad I opened up this thread because I am going to try it for breakfast now. Thanks Guys, I love the DIS::yes::

Hey dvcguy. Sorry, but it really isn't that hard to get a PS there at all. And some of us happen to believe in giving a place a fair shake so we have tried it a couple of times. This is a board to talk about retsuarants so if you don't want to hear from both sides why not move on to another thread.

I'm pretty sure that dvc guy was joking. I haven't been on this board for a while...is it my imagination or is everyone a BIT grouchy:mad: Even when you say you aren't, you are picking a fight. I've been to CM's once and we are going back in less than 2 weeks. I agree, it's not gourmet food, but the ice cream and dessert bar is plenty to fill up on after the hot food - especially for the kids. PLEASE, no lectures on healthy eating either. We are going for my DS's 8th birthday. He wanted to go back so we are. Enough said. Come 'on everyone - GROUP HUG! :grouphug:

I was wondering how long it would take someone to pick up on my comment. I am from NY so I guess you will have to figure out if I was serious (wink). As far as PS's go, we travel a peak times Christmas, President's week, and CM is always packed.
Next comment???? I am ready :crazy

OK, DS VERY PICKY EATER AND I AM NOT A BIG EATER. I WAS THINKING OF DOING IT FOR DINNER OUR NEXT TRIP, OR JUST SAVE MY MONEY FOR SOMETHING ELSE?

Okay what were you spying on us or something? I was watching our video and in the midst of the napkin waving you see my daughter pick it out of her salad and throw it on a napkin on the table with this nasty look on her face! lol It was gross but we didn't make a huge deal out of it, we just wanted it off our table! lol

We were not impressed with Chef Mickey's. It was just ok for us. However, we love Garden Grill and go every trip. I know there have been threads like this for that restaurant also.

To each his own - I suggest trying a restaurant at least once to see how YOU like it.

I agree with the OP--this is consistantly one of the worst meals at WDW. We stopped eating there several years ago.

The food at breakfast is better than dinner, but the atmosphere that early in the morning is just too much.
