Has anyone ever seen the cheetahs on Kilamanjaro Safari?
We have been several times, and we have never seen them.
Just curious.
:)

i've only personally seen them once. and they couldn't stop the vehicle long enough so i could actually get a pic (it was on the WDE tour, not the regular safari ride, but we were on the safari truck path). better off seeing them at a local zoo or whatever (if you have a zoo that has them). not like they're pink or anything special at DAK.

Yeah they are there. They are often resting with their heads sticking up but still quite hard to see. I have been able to see em when they were up and walking about and that was cool.

P.S. Right now, there are three female cheetah and as far as I know, they have been there for some time so they are used to the routine and often just lay in the shade the majority of the day.

Yeah, I have seen the cheetah once. It was just walking around. I've never seen the monkeys that are supposed to be on the safari. I've seen the habitat but never a monkey ( or whatever type of ape they are ).

Also, I have wanted to see the kangaroos that are supposedly in AK, but I have never found them. I've even seen pictures, so I know they exist at the AK park. :confused3

i have seen a cheetah on about 75% of the safaris i have been on. they are very hard to spot.

I think I"ve seen them almost every time....they are hard to spot though.

We did the Backstage tour several years ago. They had just gotten 2 young male cheetahs. They weren't "on Stage" yet, and were still getting comfortable with their new home. They were about 18mos old and were brothers. One would chirp if the other got out of site. We were told the females they had were pretty old. The new males were supposed to be loaned out for breeding or a younger female might be loaned in. However, they did not know how long it would take to sucessfully separate the brothers without them getting distressed. Maybe someone has some info on what has happened to them.

BTW: the AK Backstage tour is awesome!!! If you get an opportunity to do it, you will agree with me that it is the best tour available at the WDW

I've seen them on all of my million visits, but they have always just been laying down in the shade all the way back.

We saw one on our trip a couple weeks ago. She was running around in her area. It was the first time we'd seen one awake. We were excited. I think we have a picture - I'll try to post if I can find it.

I think we always have to crane our neck to look back to see them as I recall. They're always in the back shade & only moving sometimes.

Keep looking. Try going at different times (early am & late in the day are usually best).

Good luck w/ your cheetah spotting! :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

They are over the hill behind the flamingo pool. If you take the path behind the temp tattoo cart where Flik usually does his meet & greet, you can see them from the "front" side. DH and I were watching the birds one day - actually a little ways down the path from the flamingoes, kind of by the cotton top tamarinds, and got to talking with a CM there. She showed us the path to the kangaroos and said hardly anybody goes back there b/c they think it's employees only! It's a great spot and usually very uncrowded. There are several kangaroos usually hopping around.

As for the cheetahs, I do see them just about every time. You just have to know where to look - they're usually right up against the tree line laying down. We have seen one actually moving a few times but it's quite rare. It's just their nature to conserve their energy for bursts of fast running to catch prey - they just don't know they won't be doing that part at AK I guess - lol!

We have seen them before, but not on the last trip to AK. Back in December of 2005 we good a great view of one of them. it had been raining all morning and the animals seemed to be more active. i have a photo somewhere of it, Ill have to dig it up.

We were chosesn as Honorary Family of the K.Safari on our last trip .....

We got a private jeep and were the first ones on the safari that day....we saw all 3 just pacing around. I think it was breakfat time so they were on the move a little.....still far from the jeep/road but you could easily see them.

We got a fast pass to ride as many times as we wanted all that day too:cloud9:

I've seen them numerous times.

A couple of times one was standing and once, one was sauntering along the ridge in that distant area where they keep them.

I have seen the lions "up" more often than the cheetahs.

As they say,

"Cheetah's never win."

We've seen the cheetah twice - both times were first thing in the morning. Here's a pic - it's not the best, though - but it's proof he/she exists!!!

It was amazing on our last trip. We saw all three of them take off running after something. It was so cool and the guide said it was rare to see.

All three?

Running after the same thing?

Are their names, by any chance,

Hillary,

Barack,

and John?

I didn't get their names.:lmao:

It was really neat though. They were going after some other animals that ended up running in front of our truck. Luckily, the barriers worked.:rotfl2:

Ok, I found that pic...this was the best view i ever got of them, and remember this is a center crop of a larger photo, the cheetah was very small in the original..
