You buy a block of high quality cheese from the grocery store. You haven't gotten around to using it for a week, and it has developed some blue spots. What do you do?

Unless you bought it with spots, I'd throw it out. I hate throwing out food but I wouldn't chance it. Good-quality food usually lasts for a shorter time than over-processed food (like American Cheese-food).

Good cheese would not have stuck around long enough to develop mold in my house :lmao:

I'd think it was my fault for not eating the cheese as soon as I bought it. High quality cheese, once it's cut off the block, doesn't last that long. I don't buy it until I'm ready to eat it.

And yes, you need to throw the whole block away. I remember that much about fungi from HS bio.

BTW: Let me throw a wrench in... it is not the case, in the scenario outline in the poll, but for those who voted that they would cut the mold away and use the cheese, would your answer be different if it were raw milk cheese?

In the garbage it would go. No way would I cut out mold then put that into my body. :scared1:

I would throw it out, I don't do mold :crazy2:

I think I am probably the third generation in my family trained to trim the mold and eat it! Our gene pool hasn't died out yet!

Throw it away. I'm allergic to mold, so unless I want to end up with hives or a worse reaction its in the garbage it goes!

For those who would throw it out, or won't put mold into your bodies, (not including allergies) do you eat Bleu Cheese, Roquefort, Stilton, Gorgonzola? I LOVE these cheeses...and they are FULL of mold!

I eat none of them.

Nope, can't eat them either cause I'm allergic to them ;)

Since I can't eat any of these I just toss the block.

Now I want to go buy some cheese. Thanks a lot. :rolleyes1 ;) The sad part is that I can't get GOOD cheese here. I have to drive at least an hour away for GOOD cheese. That sucks!!! The grocery stores carry some "fancy" cheese brands but to get really good cheese I have to go to other cities. I love hoop cheddar. YUM!!! :goodvibes

Maybe we will go get pizza for lunch so I can get some nice warm melted cheese.
