Cheese board = Gas Station Sushi

My wife and I have just been laughing and rolling our eyes at the reaction to both the removal and reappearance of the all hands on deck cheese board. It wasn't bad but nothing to rave about and certainly no reason to have a tantrum when it temporarily went away.

It was the equivalent of gas station sushi. The description on the room service menu reads, “international” cheese with crackers. Really, Babybel cheese is international?

Now the luxurious cheese board has reappeared and the conspiracy theories begin to fly and it's almost as entertaining as the wailing at it's dismissal.

As was mentioned on another thread, I don't believe for a minute that the disboard members have anywhere near the influence they'd like to think they have. On any given cruise I don't think the population is more than just a very small percentage.

I cannot claim to know the complete story behind the room service menu change and reversal but I don't think it had anything to do with the people here who threw tantrums. Disney is all about customer service, if they felt they made a mistake and there was enough feedback to cause a reversal, they would be all over the opportunity to show everyone how much they want to make us all happy.

The All Hands On Deck Cheese Board is mediocre at best, and the tantrums surrounding the accidental omission and reinstatement to the menu has been quite interesting.

I'm sure I'll get poked at for my lack of activity on the forums, and daring to express my opinion. We have been reading the disboards for many years. We visit many different sites to sift through the nonsense and glean information for our vacations, whether parks or cruises.

I would ask, when you meet a new person on your cruise and they dare express an opinion do you tell them to “shut up”, because you just met them and they are not entitled to an opinion?

Agreed about the quality!! There is a FB group that thinks that they got the decision reversed. People were acting like they had removed ALL CHEESE from the ship!! It was crazy ridiculous the stuff people were saying and threatening. It's just cheese!! And not even GOOD cheese at that!! LOL!!

I think it was/is a nice little cheese plate. My kid liked the blue cheese and grapes. But I agree that the reaction when it was removed was extreme. My favorite was all the ziploc bag comments! Pretty funny stuff. Things are going to get removed once in a while, to make way for new things. What about the shows that are retired? Often the new shows are better. Things need to be refreshed sometimes.

OP, I am a cheeseaholic and I didn't much care for their cheese plate... that said, adults give their opinions in reasonable, rational manners. Your post is screaming that you want attention.

Calm down, your opinion is fine but learn to express it maturely.

I would like to say again we didn't think it was a bad cheese plate but nothing to rave about or to be upset that it went away.

However, I really agree with your second point as it was our first reaction to the uproar. Maybe they were just trying to freshen up the menu, maybe they had something new in mind? It's typical, you don't make changes and you're stale, take away something "sacred" and the mob is grabbing pitchforks and torches.

No they wouldn't. That's not what customer service is.

When you meet people IRL who have different opinions than you, do you tell them that they are having tantrums?

I've never even ordered the cheese plate, so this isn't something that changes my life, but it irritated me that they had taken something nice away.

Just looked it up...babybel was launched in France, and still some of the flavors sold in the US are made there. Especially since DCL is a Bahamas based line, it is an international cheese. (and I don't even eat babybel)

Well, I think the point is the fact that many people recognize that it was not a crazy good cheese plate, hence the uproar with charging over $25 being rediculous. It's people calling Disney out on their blatent money grubbing. The plate is fine for snack, but nothing worth almost $30.
Also, with Disney getting rid of perks that were once there, this was probably the last straw (so to speak).

I agree with you that the cheese plate wasn't that amazing, but it is nice to eat ... especially when one doesn't eat much (or any) meat.

Though, if everyone is entitled to opinions, why are you bashing those that expressed theirs?

OP, I agree that some people overreacted to the removal of the All Hands on Deck, but I find it interesting that you are concerned about getting "poked" for expressing your opinion when you insulted the very thing others were expressing their opinion about.

I would ask you, when you meet a new person and they tell you they like a certain kind of food, would you ever describe it as "gas station sushi"?

OP if it were only just the cheese tray, I don't think that anyone would have reacted so strongly. It is just another thing that DCL had changed/taken away recently. That is why everyone is reacting to it, they are just tired of DCL cutting so much at one time.

Wow...perhaps the OP overreacted to the cheese thread. :scratchin I think the public does have some "influence" on DCL. There were many calls and e-mails on their smoking policy and now you cannot smoke on verandas.

They missed out on the alcohol threads, those rose to the level of a good chair hogging thread;)

Pete and the DIS actually do have an influence on Disney. It's been discussed several times that Disney reads these boards as a way to gauge public reactions because this is such a big and active community. I even remember reading that years ago (before D23) Disney offered to buy the DISBoards.

I've spoken to CMs on board (officers too, not just worker bees) and the couple I've mentioned it to know all about this board. I think Disney in general, and specifically DCL, keep themselves abreast of what is being said about them on social media.

Bourison is also incredible in mashed potatoes:) So glad we found this on the Palo brunch it is one of our favorites and Costco sells a 3 pack pretty regularly:)
Sounds yummy!
:worship: You're killing me! I love the soft cheeses. I'm trying to shed a few before my next cruise, but cheese is my Achilles heel! *sigh*
Sorry, I'm also trying to shed a few pounds before my next cruise, so all I can do is talk about yummy cheeses

Try it on a steak next time, yummy!
Oh my, yes I will! As soon as get off this diet that is.
