I sign my dd 6 up for cheerleading this weekend. I actually had to pay for the raffle tickets upfront. Then when I sell the tickets I get to keep the money. I never remember doing this when I cheerlead. I had to sell chocolate bars back in the day, then turn in the money. They (coaches) said that is because we have parents that do not turn in the money. :sad2:

I know that getting the money returned is a recurring problem in school fundraisers (sometimes very large sums). I'm surprised though that they get many people to pay for them up front like that.

DD has mostly participated in your sports through the Military or at the YMCA and neither did fund raisers. Personally I am not a fan of selling stuff and I probably would not chose to involve DD in activities were it was required. However I do know several of my friends were in similar situations as yours.

We had to do the same thing when my DD was on the local YMCA swim team. I hate fundraising :(.

We do the same thing with little league. I was surprised at first, but I have heard from other parents that it is pretty common.
