We are considering a quick weekend trip in late Jan/early Feb of 2004. Leaning towards the first weeknd in Feb. Does anyone remember when the cheerleaders descended this year? We want to stay at Pop Century.

I know of two cheerleading competitions in WDW. One is around the second week of December and the other usually the last week in February. Those are the two that I know of. I am sure there is plenty more, but hopefully this will help somewhat.

go to the Disney web site. I think under the Wide World of Sports menu you will find a listing of events. We always go in the Feb. and the cheerleaders are there but we really don't have too many problems. But I bet you will see lots of them at Pop Century.

in 2001 i went to wdw jan 31-feb 5 and there was a DANCE competition-- not cheerleading (the girls made sure to correct people) i stayed at cbr which was where many teams stayed b/c the all stars were filled. i hate to say it but i had a horrible time at the resort b/c of it. i would think that if there is a competition that week that the overflow would go to the pop century. i would check the disney website to see if there is a competiton first. good luck!!!!!!!

Yikes! I am so glad I came across this thread. I was thinking of a late January/early February trip to follow up our visit in the autumn, and now I'm definitely thinking twice! Nothing against dancers, cheerleaders, or other such groups, but my one and only visit to WDW was with my high-school marching band, and we were DEFINITELY a loud and obnoxious bunch. I greatly pitied the poor folks who stayed in the rooms below ours, and I'm sure several complaints were sent to the front desk in our "honor". Knowing what I know now, I'm ashamed that I was part of the debacle, and you can be darned sure I don't wish to relive the experience as the "annoyed resort guest" calling the front desk and begging for some relief! ;-)

I guess it is all a matter of perspective. When I read the original post, I thought that they wanted to know when the cheerleaders were there so they could schedule a trip while they were there, like other Disney events!:p

Too late at night to be reading these kinds of posts,
Erick

::Giggle:: You are too funny, Erick. Leave it up to a guy to think of scheduling his vacation to ensure that a cheerleader invasion was incoming. And heck, bring on the scantily-clad dancers too! ;-)

We wanted to go cheap since it was just for the weekend. The cheerleaders and the dancers were competing that weekend, and I believe the majority of them were staying where we were. Yes, they do tend to take over the resort, especially the pool, which we didn't use anyway since it was pretty chilly. Sat. night they were celebrating, but it didn't go on too late. Since we were only there for the weekend, and we hadn't planned on being anywhere but the parks, we weren't too bothered by it, but we're *go with the flow* folks. We really didn't see too much of them during the day since that's generally when they compete, just at night. It wasn't a bad experience for us, but not the best either.

Having said all that, if I were to go again that weekend, I'd stay away from the value resorts, the moderates don't cost that much more in Feb., then you probably wouldn't even notice. HTH

Thanks! I was more concerned with park crowds. I guess will check the website as the time nears. If I can get a good rate at CSR or AKL, maybe we will go with that. What about ASMo? I haven't heard about cheerleaders there much.

we were there this past march, from the 11th to the 23 rd. we ran into the younger cheerlearders the first week (maybe 8-11 year olds) and the teenagers the 2nd week.

We'll never go that time again; the younger ones were not too bad; but the older ones were rude, obnoxious and completely unsupervised. I'm being kind in my remarks here.

Hessie628, we were at CBR the same time as you in Feb. We were amazed at how well it went with all the teenagers and parents. I wouldn't have a problem staying with cheerleaders at CBR again. They weren't a bother at all.

safetymom-- i'm glad you had an ok experience w/the dancers being at cbr. where did you stay? we were in aruba. a coach's room was right next to mine and i did not enjoy having the girls run in and out of the room slamming the door at 6 am and then screaming in front of my door. that was in addition to the girls below us deciding to practice at 3am. i actually got locked out b/c i ran out of my room to go down and ask them to be quiet and i forgot my key. i know i should have asked to have been moved, but i didn't want to make a big deal about it at the time. i wish i did because now when i plan my trips to wdw i always decide against cbr. hopefully soon i'll forget that experience. i will admit that in comparison to cbr-- the parks were not that bad (but in my opinion that is also not saying much) my experience did help though-- i go on a famiy trip to wdw every dec. and the pop warner kids are there. they are absolute angels compared to the groups i saw that time in feb. i agree w/ LoveMickey. i wont be going to wdw the same time as those competitons again.

Sorry to hear that your trip wasn't pleasant. We have gone to CBR many times. We weren't aware that there were competitions going on before we got there so I am glad that it worked for us. We stayed in Martinique.

We were afraid that the pool and OPR would be crowded but it wasn't. It was as quiet as it always was at CBR. I even remarked how well behaved they were.
