Anybody watching Cheerleader Nation on Lifetime? I like it. My DD is a cheerleader :cheer2: , so I can relate to some of it for sure.

Yes, I've been watching it. I like it very much so far. The one thing that I did find a little funny was when the coach gave her daughter the Kate Spade purse for her birthday. She said she had convinced her daughter that she wasn't getting it since she's just a teacher and doesn't make a lot of money. Well, judging by the size of their home (and most of the other girls' homes too), somebody is making some decent money in that family. :teeth:

We (me, DD10 and DD12) saw the first episode, but missed the second. We all have enjoyed it. Both DD's were captains of their squads last season, but they don't even do the back hand springs that you had to to just to make the squad on that show!

My thoughts exactly.

As a cheer mom of 3, I have missed it!!! Too busy with practices and local comps by the time sunday night comes I am wiped!!!! hoping to catch it this weekend............

I watch it, too! I used to be a cheerleader so I really love it. It's interesting to see how teen girls treat their parents (and vice versa). Makes me wonder what DD-9 and I will go thru.

DD and I have been watching this. She is a competitive cheerleader in her senior year so we have been to many competitions and watch a lot of them on TV. I have seen this team compete on TV and they are VERY good.

The only thing that concerns me is the fact that the girls wear jewelry to practice and also have long nails, in the one episode they showed some of the girls getting acrylics. This is incredibly dangerous.

You would think as a top caliber team the coach would watch out for the nitpicky stuff.

I like that they are not showing the girls to be ditzy just normal teenagers.

I watched it recently and enjoyed it. I am a former cheerleader from grade school and high school on up thru college so I enjoy just about anything about cheerleading. :)

I love this show! I feel a little weird admitting it though :teeth: I was a cheerleader in high school (I actually made varsity as a freshman). I like that they are showing how much work goes into it! Boy do those girls have some horrible attitudes toward their parents though. I was never like that and it makes me glad I have a boy :thumbsup2

Anyone still watching this? The episode tonight showed them at All Star Sports Resort getting ready to compete at WDW. Pretty neat to see I thought :)

Yep, we just watched it. I can't wait to see how they do at Nationals! We actually saw them about 2 weeks ago when the Nationals were on ESPN. But I have no idea where they placed because we didn't get to watch the whole competition. DD12 freaked out when they announced DUNBAR. She loves Ryan and spotted her right away! :cheer2:

I haven't missed an episode. Sorry to see it end next week. I admit I looked at the results, so I know how Nationals turned out.

After watching this show, I have to admit I have a new found respect for cheerleaders. When I was in HS, cheerleading was not looked upon as a sport. In fact, the cheerleaders did little more than stand on the sidelines clapping and baked cookies for the football players.

I had no idea the level of commitment and the athletic ability the girls on the competitive teams have. One of them mentioned their training is more rigorous then the boys' sports teams and I have to say I agree! I think cheering must be more popular in the midwest and southern states than here in the northeast, because I've never seen anything like what those girls do at any games around here!

I just LOVE this show. I get a real kick out of the interaction between moms and daughters. I have 3 grown daughters and I can see myself as one of those moms - they are so involved in their daughters' lives - and it is tough to know when to back away. I used to get so mad at my mom for trying to make small talk about my cheerleading, and then my girls used to do the same to me. They never wanted me to hover, but they always wanted me there! These girls are so cute - typical teens, and they really work hard. I have seen them on TV competing in the past, and WOW they are fantastic! They must start their tumbling/gymnastics at a really young age. I agree about the nails - and chewing gum!! We had a kid in school who was chewing gum on the trampoline and aspirated the gum and died!!
My DD's came home with many, many bruises, black eyes, torn ligaments in knees, sprains, etc. They got kicked when they were the base, and dropped if they were a flier - cheerleading is a sport!

I watched about half of the episode and I got tired of all the whining. It was completely ridiculous. And yes, I am in high school. Maybe it has something to do with the whole color guard vs. cheerleader rivalry, but I just found them annoying. There was one part in particular that I just had to  . It was the part where the were whining about how now that a competition was coming up, their practices were 2 hours long and then when their coach talks, he rambles and that makes it more like 2.5 hours long. *gasp* What a tragedy! Sorry, don't want to start anything, just saying that I found it annoying. And BTW, my cousin is a cheerleader. When she is around all her cheerleading friends, she is the same way. When its just me and her, she's cool, so its not like I'm just ratting on the cheerleaders or anything.

Some background here:

Dunbar high school is in the rapidly growing southwest side of Lexington, KY. There are many large homes in that area, but Lexington has one of the lowest housing prices in the nation. Many people who have been in that area for 5-10 years paid 200K or less for their 3,000 square foot homes. Now many homes are 300K plus there. Property taxes are also low compared to the rest of the nation. The incomes of these families are no different than a median income on the east and west coasts-it's just that the dollar buys much more here. I actually have several people that deliver newspapers for me that have children at Dunbar for further prospective.

My wife is watching the series, as she is a former cheerleader, plus these girls are close to home.

Does anyone know if this competition (Nationals) was back in February? I remember being at MGM in February and Indiana Jones was closed because of a cheerleading competition. It was really rainy the day we went too. I wonder if it was the same competition.

ETA : AHH I just saw the backpacks and remember all the girls wearing those around the parks so it had to have been the same competition. DS was so upset that Indiana Jones was closed that day and I remember thinking cool, a competition, wonder if we can watch LOL.

ETA AGAIN LOL...The prequals look like they were at MGM but the finals at WW of Sports

I tried watching it, but when they showed Chelsea (I think that was her name) fall, I cringed and it brought back baaaad memories. I was dropped from a full liberty and the spotter caught me with her kneee on my tailbone. I broke my tailbone and it still gives me horrible pain and that was in 7th grade!!!! :cheer2:

I wish I could watch it though.
