I need a bumper sticker that says "My (insert dog breed here) is smarter than your honor student".

At least I'll never have to worry if my greyhound has been out drinking, running with a bad crowd, smoking pot, getting bad grades, etc........

you can make your own bumper sticker- check it out!

Hey Michele -

Just PM'd you back. The notifications here arrived PAINFULLY late in my email box for some reason. ;) Sorry I was so behind.

Sheesh , here's another one. I would have BINGO if I could combine the two. Is that allowed? ;)

I think the saddest bumper sticker I've ever seen is "My child made the effort roll." The effort roll?!? In other words, my kid tried his or her best and still couldn't make the grades for the honor roll, so they handed out this bumper sticker because we mustn't damage childrens' self-esteem by letting them know they won't succeed at everything they touch!

That is a new one I haven't heard yet. When I was in school I was athletic. (Still athletic but old age is setting in) :rotfl: I have 6 Presidential Fitness awards. One for every year that I could get one. My friend tells me now that they have varying degrees of those awards now. They still have the one I have but also: One for 75%, One for 50% and one for trying. I worked my butt off for those. Just shows how much the times have changed.

The next bumper sticker they will make up will just say
"My kid goes to school"

How about they add JUST for us CCF people- AND YOUR TAXES PAY FOR IT! :lmao:

.......

I've got a license plate frame that says "my border collie is smarter than your honor student"! I get comments on it all the time and my response is "well, sorry you're jealous that my dog is smarter than your kid." :rotfl2:

and then people have the nerve to wonder why society has such a sense of entitlement??? Nobody ever had to earn anything!! When you get a trophy just for showing up, you expect to get everything in life without working for it. The people that were children at the beginning of the "self-esteem" movement are now adults and look at the results. Spend a few minutes on the theme park thread and check out the pet peeves and gripes-ALL of which are about behaviors that stem from that sense of entitlement. These lazy bums can't even wait in line, because that's too much work for them!

Bumping to the first page. I'm sure that ticks a few folks off. ;)

Good morning cheerful gang! This fencesitter is especially cheerful this morning because her in-laws just left her house. :rotfl:

They had just finished a trip all over the East and Canada to visit all their children including DH. They took video of his sisters' kids (the oldest one has 5 and the youngest one has 2). It was great to see them, but not be there!!

Oldest SIL's kids are EXTREMELY well-behaved, but DH and I were getting a little nervous/stressed just watching them on video. Imagine one child (7) screeching away on her violin, another (6) playing the piano, another (4) talking NON-STOP about nothing in particular, another (3) trying to get at the video camera to see herself, and the baby (1) crying. All while mom is in the kitchen trying to get dinner ready.

NO THANK YOU. And these kids weren't being bad! They were just being kids. How do some people do it?

I stopped in for my normal morning DIS visit, and I happened to stumble upon a thread about whether pudding is considered a "healthy" snack. I guess some schools are now dictating that snacks should be "healthy" (which is fine I guess, but a very subjective determination) and now parents are worrying about trying to conform to what the teacher thinks they should bring in while still maintaining a peanut-free classroom and dealing with their child's own proclivities.

Just reading the whole thing made me tired. The idea of dealing with that kind of junk on a day-to-day basis is just NOT attractive. I was used to the idea of the "mommy police" but now having to answer to the schools as well? Can't say that's got me rushing to sign up!

Anyway, observation over. What's everyone up to this long holiday weekend?

DH and I toyed with the idea of running away for the weekend (don't mind my smug, child-free grin :teeth: ) but decided to stay local and enjoy some things we haven't done around here for a while. I think we might head into Chicago for a day or two and maybe museum-hop or catch a show.

I am with you. There is no part of being child-free that I don't enjoy. Also, I thank my lucky stars pretty much every day that I don't have kids. Love it!

Happy Friday before a long weekend to all!

I don't have any plans at the moment, which is fine by me.

Have you all seen the show on TLC about the couple with SIXTEEN kids??? Or the one with the people who had twins using IVF (or drugs, not sure) AND THEN HAD SEXTUPLETS?????? I was speechless.

Just thought of another great thing about being childfree: We went to WDW in JANUARY...didn't have to worry about a school schedule. It was sooooo peaceful there at that time and the weather we had was wonderful.

They are covering the repopulation of the planet thing for those of us who have chosen to be child free!

To each his own-if that makes them happy, AND if they have the means to support that small army-more power to them. My resentment comes in when people continue to have children when they cannot financially support them. I don't begrudge anyone help when they need it, I just don't want generational dependents. (I would have had kids if I wanted that) I pay my school taxes cheerfully because I want an educated society-HOWEVER, I do NOT want to pay to permanently sustain a family. If you are the third unbroken generation of welfare and food stamps-something is WRONG either with you or with the society that allows it. These programs were originally designed to help people get through hard times-loss of a job, illness-TEMPORARY situations. I blame the politicians that want to create a class of voters that will constantly remain dependent on government assistance so that those same politicians remain in power.

Oddly enough, they don't bother me much. I certainly wouldn't choose their life and I don't share most of their beliefs (they're ultra-religious and believe in the idea that God should be responsbile for determining how many children they have, so they don't use birth control.) but at least they're self-sustaining.

While I wouldn't want everyone in the world to have 16 kids, they're definitely in the minority, so I don't worry too much about excess population in cases like this.

Mostly I just file it under "Not for me, but as long as you're supporting your own family--whatever floats your boat!"
