Hello!

There seem to be lots of threads for those discussing motherhood and other issues relating to children, so how about a thread on the CB for those of us who choose to be child-free? Anyone interested?

Sign me up! Dh and I are never having kids. It was a conscious choice we made and we are quite happy with it. I love my neices and nephews, but we are not "into" parenting.

Ditto what Jennasis said! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Our nephew is the most loved (and spoiled) child in the world - but we are in no way interested in having kids ourselves.

I was wishing this was me earlier today - bad day with the dear ones!!!

Funny you should bring this up. I had just paid the month's hockey bill, dropped money off at DD's apartment, and was picking up DS a county over at a friend's house, thinking about school shopping, when he asked, "How come Uncle Chris has a Viper and we don't? He's younger than you are!" I said, without blinking an eye, "He has no kids".

I am an Aunt to 11 wonderful nieces and nephews. I have promised all of them a trip of a lifetime to WDW when they graduate from high school. My motto, spoken in a loud firm voice is:

Love them, spoil them, GIVE THEM BACK!!!

I can spoil all of them rotten and go home when the real fun....whining, backtalking, etc. begins.

I just LOVE being an Aunt!

Well, I'm not, but I can guarantee you that if I were child free I would be pretty darn cheerful most days. :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2: ;) :yay:

Me me me! :)

Give me cats- not kids!

I'm not an aunt and I'm not sure I'd like being one, but I'd rather be an aunt than a mom if I had to choose.

I am 37, and have been declaring my childfreedom since about 15 yrs of age. Of course, I was told by many that I'd change my mind later- but the joke's on them :)

I am single, and a potential mate has to be childfree as well. No exceptions.

I belong to No Kidding, a social group for the childfree which has chapters all over the USA and Canada.

I don't have a Viper, but I do dine out a lot and love to travel. :)

DINKs (Dual Income No Kids) here. We go to Disney when others can't because of school. We go to kid's movies all the time.

Have enough with the two dogs and a cat.

When ever we need a 'child fix', we sit one of a ga-zillion nieces or nephews. And best part is when they get on our nerves is generally about the same time to give 'em back! :teeth:

Oh yeah...got a buttload of disposable income too. The neighborhood fathers say they live vicariously through me. Whatever that means.... :rolleyes1

Ladyyred, I love your cat. Reminds me of my Lily (on the left)!

You know I just skimmed through that thread and folks posting to say they were child-free by choice kept saying things like "I'm selfish" or "I guess were just selfish." That makes me sad. If you choose to be child-free I see nothing selfish about it. IMHO it would be selfish to have a child because you felt obligated to (by society, family etc) and not because you wanted to.

(I know better than to make the pet/child comparison but I'm gonna do it anyway.) I am dog free by choice. I don't want to deal with housebreaking, feeding, training, taking to the vet, finding a good kennel etc so we don't have a dog. Does that make me selfish? No, it makes me smart enough to not bring an innocent animal into my life because I just can't (and don't want to) care for it the way it should be. I think it's the same with the child/no child choice. You know yourself better than anyone else and you are making the right decision.

Sorry to ramble but it just doesn't seem fair the people feel bad for making this choice.

This is great! Now that you guys have your own thread maybe you can refrain dropping in on the parenting threads to tell us how we should be raising our kids!!!! :rotfl2:

Seriously, I think that telliing child-free people that they are selfish is just sour-grapes from people who are overwhelmed by being parents. Well, it can be overwhelming at times, but you are no more selfish for not having kids than we are for having them. And most of us would not trade places with you anymore than you would want to trade places with us. So let's ust all be happy with the choices we made, okay?

I SO prefer disposable income over disposable diapers!

Should we rename this thread "The Childfree Only Thread- no Debates"- like the "Liberal only" and "Conservative only" threads? ;)

Thanks! Your babies are soooo beautiful! I love kitties. I have no kids and I've already planned to be the old cat lady. :teeth:

I love kids.........But I love giving them back to their parents even better! :teeth:

We have been married close to 16 years, are both 42, are currently child free but are looking to adopt, by choice! :sunny:

That being said.....I have several friends who are married and will remain child free by choice. I really get it!! Some of them have expressed that they have caught flack from people for it, but I really believe that if people KNOW they don't want kids...they don't need an explanation....they just should not have them! It's a very mature desicion and they should not feel guilty about it or be judged for it!! It's much worse to have kids when you aren't sure you want them because it's an irrevoccable decision that affects many lives!!

So, although I hope not to remain childless, I fully support the right to choose to!! :cheer2:
