Checking Out...

Is it necessary to go to front desk to check out of a resort? Having stayed several times at different resorts, when we were ready to leave, we just packed and left. Of course, we never used the phone in the room or charged anything to the room so we never thought we had to. There should not have been any additional charge. After reading some posts here, we just realized we might be doing something wrong.

We never actually *checked out* at CSR or ASMo. We just rec'd our detailed bill hanging on our door the next morning.
At POR, we were given the run around and didn't have to actually check out, but I did have to go to the front desk and get my final bill. And it was insinuated I didn't ask for express check out. (Although no one told me I need to either.) And even though I didn't ask for it, they appeared to have me set up for it anyway. I just didn't have the bill in time before we had to leave.
