We are flying US Airways and will be bringing our own stroller.

On their website, the size limit is under 62" (L+W+H). 62" & over is an $80 charge. Our stroller is 68".

Does anyone know if they will let it go through or will we be charged? Anyone have experience checking a stroller?

Thanks

I have a similar question posted... Is a Graco Duoglider able to be gate checked? I am not sure of the exact measurement... But i know its bigger than a single stroller.... and weights 20 lbs... but feels heavier do to the bulk...

When I researched this for our trip on Delta, they did not give any measurement specifics for gate checking a stroller. I think it is because typically the airlines put it under the airplane anyway (but in a spot that is easy for them to get to and have it at the gate when you get off the plane).

mommytodarlings - I am not sure if the measurements for checked baggage apply for the strollers. If they do have a problem with it - maybe you can just do a gate check to get around it. I do know that strollers will not count as a carryon if gate checked.

I just reread my post and I am not helpful at all. Sorry about that!!

But, if this helps, remember to close your strollers right before you get on the plane. I have heard that when they come and get your stoller at the door to the airplane, if they can not close it easily, they will find a way to close it for you :) Not a fun thing to find right before you need it for a vacation at Disney!!

It'll probably depend on the employee at the desk. I would guess that most would let you check it for free.
If they didn't let you check it without a charge, I'd just take it to the gate and gate check it. You won't be charged for excessive size, and it won't count as towards your 2 bag limit on checked baggage.

I've always just checked our (single - don't even know the measurements) stroller at the gate. We usually fly Northwest and it hasn't been a problem. You check it at the gate, just before boarding. When you get off the plane, it will be waiting for you ... sometimes they even unfold the strollers and have them lined up!!! I wouldn't it check it with your luggage unless you have to - a stroller is very handy to have b/c you can use it to haul your gear or your child quickly through the airport.

Thanks, I think I will just gatecheck it.

I tried calling US Airways customer service and the person couldn't answer my question. They just told me I could bring a lightweight collapsible stroller on board and put it in the overhead compartment  He obviously did not know what I was asking.

I have taken a stroller several times. You will need to tag it (name, address...). I think it counts as one of your allowable baggage. When you are about to board (right at the entrance of the plane doors). Fold the stroller up and they will place it on your plane before takeoff. When you get to MCO it will be right outside the plane doors for you to pick up.

Gate check it. That way you can use the stroller in the airport. Which is nice is you have to change planes.

we didn't want to struggle with the stroller in the airport.. so we checked ours. the issue was they kept bringing it out at the gate (which of course we weren't expecting!!) even tho it didn't have a gate check tag. So of course it wasn't on the belt like we expected.. both going to orlando and on the way home.

We had kids traveling with us.. so # of checked items wasn't an issue so don't know if they count that against you. Worst case.. just gate check. It will be waiting for you on the jetway when you get off the plane.
