Check your turkey!!

There is usually a metal wire holding the legs together. I release the legs to rinse out the turkey. The wire stays in place during cooking.

Now the thing holding the legs is made out of plastic. Do I leave it on during cooking or try to cut it out?

DH was watching TV today and they said you could put a frozen turkey in the oven at 350 degrees for 2 1/2 hours, then take it out to remove giblets, etc., then put it back in the oven again at 350 degrees for another 2 1/2 hours. Trouble is, he didn't say what size turkey this was. Of course, you couldn't put the stuffing in, but I usually bake mine separate anyway.

Just don't deep fry a turkey with even an ounce of ice in it because it can flash and burn your house down. Happened to a friend.

My turkey is now thawed, I think, and I've never made one before except a breast in the crockpot. So here's hoping. Y'all keep your fingers crossed that I don't give everyone salmonella or something. :D

NEVER FRY in the house, near the house , around the house , must be AWAY from the house . We fry middle of the back yard.

If it is made of plastic it will probably melt, so I would cut it off. All of the turkeys I have bought have had the end of the legs tucked in that fold of skin at the opening.

I was pleasantly surprised that my 24 lb. Birdzilla was completely thawed when I opened the wrapping this morning. It has been in the refrigerator since last Friday and I fully expected to find some chunks of ice inside but it was totally thawed.

Big Bird is now stuffed and in the oven with an estimated finish time of 2 o'clock. Dinner is set for 3 o'clock, so he'd better continue to cooperate!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

The plastic contraption holding her legs closed can stay on during cooking. Think of the oven bags that are plastic.

Unless you have an indoor turkey fryer from butterball. I have one and used it the past two years with no issues.

recipe I used for the Grand Marnier injection is a follows:
1/2 stick butter
1/4 c worchestchire sauce
1/2 c hot sauce
1/2 c Gran Marnier or orange flavored liqour
1 tsp pepper
1TBSP salt
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp oregeno

We also sprinkle Emerils' Essence on top of the turkey both before and after we fry it.

Heat all the ingredients on low heat and drain through a mesh strainer. Cool down for about 10 minutes and inject into turkey. Let rest over night. We put the turkeys in trash bags and then in a metal pan so it doesn't leak all over the fridge.

The turkey has a spiral pattern from the marinade when cut. I will share pics tomorrow.

Oh coolio! Thanks. :goodvibes

can't wait to see the pics!
