If you aren't seeing the new, higher tax rate of 8.75%, Ahnuld is going to have a beef with the Mouse!

Orange County, my friend.

To Sherwin - it does apply in OC, as well

To OP - Why wouldn't DL have the change in place? They are a major corporation that is aware of business practices.

I think the 8.75% is statewide now - am I right, Disney Dreams? I think we Cali residents are all getting hit with the tax hike all over the state, and DLR is part of our wonderful and beautiful state. (I suppose the DLR resort tax of 15% will stay the same because it is not the same thing as sales tax, but I could be wrong.)

Still not as high of a sales tax as in Tacoma!

(as long as you don't mention that we don't have a state income tax...)

It's a statewide 1% hike so where I am it will go up to 8.375% instead of 7.375%. We are a little lower than down South. :) Which reminds me to check our system to see if it updated automatically and to make myself a note to charge the updated tax rate to CA residents......oh boy....

Whoa!!!! Really? They raised cigarette tax that much?? WOW!!!! Glad I don't smoke....lol Maybe this will give my BFF's DFi enough incentive to quit.

:thumbsup2

ETA: Just heard on the news the tobacco tax went up from $0.39/pack to $1.01. WOWZERS!

Yeah, I just saw an article yesterday talking about how the quit-smoking hotlines were jammed with people trying to get help quitting because of the tax increase. Glad that is one tax I can avoid!

Is there a tax on the hoppers and passes now? I know that was one of the things the state wanted to do.

I don't know if it is this way in other states, but here in California (at least in my area of SoCal) the grocery stores don't charge tax for any kind of food/edible item. The only taxable items are non-edible things. However, in the past there has been proposed the possibility of charging a tax on non-essential food, aka the "junk food tax." But then someone official would have to be in charge of determining exactly what constituted "junk" and what didn't in order to apply that. For example, we know that potato chips, doughnuts and candy bars and ice cream are junk, but would a frozen pizza or frozen apple pie - while not necessarily healthy - be considered junk food? It's kind of a gray area, but an interesting theory. I wonder if they will ever make that happen. Anyway, you guys reminded me of that because you were talking about the cigarette tax. Isn't it called something like the 'vice tax'? Thankfully, tobacco is not one of my vices....Disney stuff IS one of my vices!!:goodvibes

Apparently, it just went up to 9.5% here in King.

All I know is if they place a specified tax hike on chocolate, I may not be responsible for my actions! ;)

:lmao::lmao::lmao:Yes, I have a feeling there would be a lot of folks enraged and forming an angry mob over tax on certain things. THere would be a mutiny on Ralphs! It is a rather controversial idea, the junk food tax - that is why I am not sure if and how the State could ever enact it - because someone would literally have to be in charge of determining what was junk and what wasn't. Cigarettes are easy to figure out, as is alcohol. But what one person considers 'junk food' (like a Marie Callender's frozen pot pie or something similar) may not be 'junk' to the next person.

Well, when Tom Sawyer Island was first opened at Disneyland Park in 1956, part of the opening day ceremonies included the reading of a proclamation by the Governor of Missouri in which he unilaterally annexed Tom Sawyer Island to that state.

As such, Tom Sawyer Island is not subject to the recent raise in California Sales Tax. Please verify when purchasing food or souvenirs on Tom Sawyer Island that you are being charged the Missouri Sales Tax of 4.225%.

If you have any questions, please contact a Disneyland Park Host or Hostess or the Department of Revenue, Government of the State of Missouri, located in Jefferson City, Mo..

:rotfl:

Yeah, hopefully they never do a specific Disney-tax! That would be a problem! :rotfl:

Yikes! Perish the thought! That would hit a bunch of us here on the DIS pretty hard!!

So in my little are of SoCal, I read in one place that our sales tax is now 9.25%? (It was 8.25% before today.) Then I read that Los Angeles County was bumped up to 9.75%, for some reason. So I am confused. Oh well, I guess I will find out what the tax actually is the next time I buy something! In any case, it's a lot!

:lmao:

Does that include all the booty stolen by the pirates on the island now?

And here is what I found regarding sales tax in OC, don't know how accurate, but there ya go:
http://www.boe.ca.gov/cgi-bin/rates.cgi?LETTER=O&LIST=COUNTY

From what I can see, CA state tax is 8.25%, and Orange County tax is .50%. That equals 8.75% I did not find a tax for the city of Anaheim. Hopefully, that rate will stay put for a while.
