I do hate incompetent TA's:mad: makes peoples lives more miserable than they should be re travel.

Thankyou so much for your help, I have just been credited with points for all 8 flights for each 4 passengers, including all of our international flights! :)

I cannot thank you enough and let you all know how lost we would be without this group!!

Karen I couldn't agree more. We booked through flight centre for our delta flights as we wanted their $20 voucher per person for price matching. I told the TA that we should be able to choose our seats with Delta on booking but she insisted that we couldn't for internal Delta. I called Delta who insisted that my TA had to do it. The TA then said we get seat allocations on check in at Sydney.

Cut a long story short, surprise surprise at Sydney airport they told us that they couldn't allocate seats for US internal flights here and that we should have done it at booking. Once we got to the US, the flight was full and all five of us were split up! Not happy Jan. Luckily one very helpful Delta staff member sorted it out and also allocated our seats for the rest of our internal flights.

I no longer use Australian TAs for anything. I either do everything myself or use US TAs who are much more competent and give better service.

so far we've been very lucky with flight times with Delta. Either no changes or only minimal ones. Fingers crossed that this will remain the same!

Odd. Flight Centre was the complete opposite for me. Price matched and then gave entire control over to me and I've been selecting seats and whatever since. mwahahaha- the power.

In seriousness, the travel agent was able to select the seats for the internal fights for you. You were able to as well through Delta's portal with your booking number and name. My understanding is that FC book directly with Delta and go through a different system. It is helpful if they tell you this though.

RE: TA's -it depends who you get I think. Some are great and knowledgeable; others are about as helpful as WDW's phone CMs. Actually, that's not fair - others are about as helpful as MOST of WDW's phone CMs.

(cheers out to Buffy who handled my Disneyland reservation and was AMAZING - she slayed them bookings)

I know I can choose the seats at booking with Delta . Chalk it up to naïveté and stupidity at the time on my part. I was getting tired of arguing with the flight centre TA. Only ever use them to price match anyway. The only good TA at Flight centre unfortunately quit to concentrate on her family. have since learnt about Delta's online service. I know that TAs range in knowledge and service but none of the Aussie TAs (and we've dealt with many!) have been able to match the friendliness, knowledge and service of our American TAs.

My TA from flight centre just told us to pick up our tickets one month before. It's only that I was on here and saw the FF stuff that it made me think. Made a login for Delta and there were all of our flights with seats waiting to be chosen....maybe if I had of known last week I could have gotten better seats. :confused3 Anyway we are all seated together for all internal flights, they just wont let me select with Hawaiian and Delta for the flights Syd-Hon and Hon-La then none for the reverse, La-Hon and Hon-Syd. Maybe I will be able to choose later:sad2:

I called her to ask our ticket numbers so I could redeem the FF points and suddenly someone in the office fixed it all up for us, including the Syd-Hon part with Hawaiian credited to Delta FF points! Incredible how they failed to mention it before because flights for 4 from Syd-Hon-La-NO-Nyc-Mco-LA-Hon-Syd I am sure we will be entitled to something!

Maybe you ladies should be TA's then we would have no problems!!

off to check my flights again.....and check the inflight entertainment movies playing on air new zealand:dance3:

Karen, we must have some sort of psychic connection going on...I did the same thing last night! They're only showing August at the moment but I'm hoping some of those movies will still be playing in September.

They have ALL the Avengers movies playing this month which would keep my DS totally occupied for 13 hours, no problem :thumbsup2

We flew internally with Delta last year - Dec from L.A to Missoula (Montana) via Salt Lake City and in January from Missoula to Vegas.

I think we were able to pick our seats after we'd booked.

My tips -

If you are travelling with children enquire at the boarding gate with the attendant if you could board early. They announced at L.A that parents with small children could board early but they wouldn't allow us on early with 10 and 12 year olds. That sucked big time as everyone boarding had copious amounts of bags and hogged all of the over head lockers (to avoid paying for baggage I assume). But, when we were at SLC I enquired again prior to the boarding call and I was told there was no problem with the kids in boarding early. Woo hoo for us - I got to put my bag full of spare clothes/wipes/snacks leftover from the stopover etc in the overhead compartment :cool1:

Also, we paid $25 per bag for checked baggage. Leaving Missoula we were 3kg over on one bag. We were told it would cost an extra $125 on top of the original cost of the bag to check it. So, we pulled things out and rearranged stuff between our 4 bags to avoid the extra cost. Every other bag was under the limit so it didn't really make sense. The man at the counter did not suggest moving the stuff between cases, either.

We did not get snacks on our flight to SLC due to turbulence and the seat belt sign being on for most of the trip. By the time the food cart got to being brought out they got to the first couple of rows then it was time to put the belts back on to prepare for landing. We were two rows behind where they stopped serving :confused3

We could not board early for our flight to Vegas so were stuck with scrambling with overhead locker space - good thing as I had decided to pack as little as possible in the kids' backpacks for that very likelihood.

The only gripe I have with Delta at the moment is that I am unable to enrol hubby and kids in their SkyMiles program. I keep getting an unable to process message and so far have had no reply to my emails. I wasn't aware of being able to sign up each person when I booked originally as I thought all tickets would go on the one SM account

Oh, one really important thing - always carry your passport with you at the airport even for internal flights. I thought I'd packed mine in my luggage and thought showing our drivers licences would do - we were almost hauled off to the interview room for 'interrogation' until I managed to find them in a carry on bag! I'm sure many of you frequent travellers know this but it was my first time in the U.S and hubby hasn't been since before 9/11 and it's all changed in a big way.

twitter delta assist with the skymiles issues......

and overhead bin wars are here to stay until they either start charging for carry on or drop the luggage fees......thats one thing i hate about domestic usa travel, the size of carry ons:sad2:

my passport never leaves my side, as I do want to come home again:cheer2:

Our passports will be almost glued to our side next time. The worst part about being the mum though is that you're usually stuck carrying everything!

I'll have a look at the delta site you suggested, thanks for that.

I'm only new to this international travelling stuff and I find that our TA is not able to do everything that I want as she's restricted to booking through their wholesaler and if you don't book one thing with them then they can't book other things to go along with it. This site and the Australia part of it has been a big help, especially your input :thumbsup2 Thanks :cheer2:
