I just rechecked the National website and the price for our rental has gone down again. I got intermediate, Emerald Isle for 6 days for $129.06. That is using the $20 off coupon and ID for the entertainment book. But the motor club number and the ID from mousesavers come up with the same thing using the coupon.

Mine is $200 HIGHER now! I'm not messing with the quote I got the first time! I think I got a pretty good one. But thanks for the thought!:smooth:

My 4-day ressie just came down another $8 (or $2/day). Since my original ressie--which wasn't that bad to begin with--I've re-booked twice for a total savings of $36. I love getting all these heads up to re-check the National site from the DIS! You folks are the best!

Mine dropped again too. Only $1.50, but it dropped! I've changed mine 4 times in the last week. Still waiting for this wonderful rate to become available for my Apr/May trip or others. I got the base rate of $129 for a week, intermediate, EA. Before substracting the discount, coupon or adding fees. For 8 days my total is $164. I used the vac. discount (10%) and $15 coupon.

I just checked again since everyone else's is going down, and mine has gone UP even more! My total of $322 is now $544! 9 days, minivan. Wow!:earseek:

What dates are you all trying? Especially lynr who got the reduction.

Denise, what are you dates?

I have had this happen to me too, but, after clearing my cookies and cache it seems to change, again. :)

Hi Gail!:D
Dates are 6/20 to 6/29
I'll try your suggestion and see if it changes!

Woo Hoo! Thank You! :hyper: Another $6 savings for me (Hey! Every little bit helps!) I'm down to $187 for 10 days! :hyper:

Gail is correct, I dump my cookies and temp files everytime I make a National ressie. That is the only site I have problems with.

I orginally booked back in August for an early Feb. EA rental. Got a rate of 147.?? for six days Jan 31 - Feb 5th. (Carlson Contract ID & Vacation outlet 15.00 off coupon.) :D I was happy with that.

Then the news a couple of weeks ago here said, "go check!", did as I was told and then it was 126.49. for the same options. I was really happy about this!

Then I checked again today, like you all told me to. And now the same options are 107.61! :jumping1: now I am really happy.

You guys Rock!!!!! .

You are early with the reservation, keep on checking, it may go down as your trip gets closer.

Gail-thanks for the info about clearing out the cookies with National. My rate dropped again-woohoo! I didn't think it was going to go lower and wasn't going to bother, but then I read the post and thought "what the heck" and sure enough it is lower, only by a couple of bucks, but enough for a Dove Bar or Dole Whip-lol!

Thanks again!

I am curious~ Does anyone know why the rates change so much? I have rented 2 cars from National and very rarely do I get extra savings. I try coupons and codes all the time, but can't seem to get the extra savings (On the base rate) that some DISers get.

I have a rental with National for two weeks in April/May. It is a Standard Car for $355.07. (including tax and fees) Do you think this is a good deal or should I keep trying? Any chance that the base rate will drop between now and then???

Thanks for your help! You all are great!!!:Pinkbounc

toystoryduo, I think you have a good rate for 2 whole weeks. Most people I think on this thread are renting for 1 week or thereabouts. You have the equivalent of $177 a week for a standard car. Maybe not as good as some, but nothing to sneeze at.

It's also been posted by a lot of people, myself included, that the rates will drop the closer you get to your date. I found that with National, about 1 month out always gave me the best rate. But I almost always travel in early December and not the time you are so I have no idea of there's a base rate difference in time of year.

Keep checking. The worst that can happen is that you won't save more.

Zulaya:

My dates are 1/29 - 2/3 for an Intermediate - Emerald Isle. I used the Entertainment book ID code and their $20 coupon. I tried the motor club ID and it is the same as the entertainment book, so is the Walmart and Sams Club.

I try to check everyday, in the beginning of Dec I got down to a rate of $112.00 for the same exact rental time and car.

One: I never go by the base rate, I go with the bottom line.
There can be a significant difference between the two.
IE: I have a ressie for AARP with a lower base rate, but a higher bottom line.
IE: I have a ressie with the DC code, higher base rate than AARP but, bottom line is lower.
To quote a base rate is a waste of time, in reality.
The closer you get to your rental date, the more likely it will drop.
Just keep checking.
