Does any one know if you can put a 12 pack of canned soda and/or a 12 pack of canned beer in your check in luggage? (domestic flight) thanks!

It's not something that I would want to try because if they burst, you've got a real mess and so does everyone else who's luggage in under yours in the cargo area.

Moving to the Transportation Forum for input on actual policies regarding this.

Technically? Yes. But, you will get many responses telling you not to. While I realize that many people want their favorite beverage while on vacation, it's taking a great chance putting liquids in your checked bags. I've watched those handlers toss bags around. I'm truly surprised we don't see more broken and damaged stuff.
So. I've packed liquids before..a bottle of wine or such. But, I wrapped it in a towel, then in bubble wrap. Put that in a large zip-loc baggie and put that whole thing in yet another zip-loc baggie. And that wasn't carbonated. I wouldn't take the chance of my carbonated beverges not exploding or leaking. It would add a sizable amount of space taken up in your bag to pack it the right way. Not to mention the addtl weight. If you don't pack it correctly, you risk ruining not only your things but other travelers things as well.
I would seriously consider buying what you need when you get to your destination.

Thanks for the replies-

I (finally) got through to someone at SWA. She said you can do that, it's not a pressure issue at at all (which was my main concern) BUT she said there is the baggage handler issue, and it can get handled pretty roughly. She also said when it goes through, if TSA thinks it's not packed properly, they can yank it.

Oh well (we never bring checked luggage, so we figured if we did check just the beverages, we would save money on the other end when we arrive- we aren't renting a car, so we can't stop anywhere on the way like a grocery store).

Back before 9/11 when you could still bring drinks on board we had a 6 pack of Dr pepper. We got on a puddle jumper so not expected and they made us check our carry on bag. I was scared to death they would explode but they didn't and it was not pressurized like large planes. We probably didn't go up high enough though.
Good luck

There's a Hess station across from Downtown Disney. It carries soda, beer, snacks, etc. - i.e. it's also a minimart. Take the DTD bus from your resort, get off at the second stop, walk across the parking lot and street, it should be almost right there. Cheaper than buying onsite, safer than packing liquids.

I had issues flying in May with my 16-month old daughter because I had two 8 ounce bottles of apple juice in her diaper bag. They kept asking me if all the liquids was for just one baby. It was a 2 hour, 15 minute nonstop flight but I knew ME would take another 40 minutes or so to the hotel so I wanted enough fluids for her. They finally let me through after doing additional testing of the apple juice bottles, it was a pain and completely unnessecary. I will just buy her juice or water at the airport when we fly in December instead of going through that again.
