Can someone please check my math and give me some advice?? I want to make sure I'm not screwing my family with these decisions. Since I'm the "researcher" and "planner", I've got to have my facts right! I've very new to the dining plan and still pretty new to Disney.

I'll start off with my current ADRs...

12/13 Sci-Fi-meal only as $58
12/14 CRT-meal only as $86
Plaza-meal only as $42
12/15 Nothing right now
12/16 Princess Storybook Dining-meal only as $59
12/17 Nothing now.

We'll be staying off property 12/12 (driving down after work) and checking out on 12/17.

Here's where my begging will begin :worship: :worship: :worship:

If my calculations are correct, for MEALS ONLY if we ordered the most expensive thing on the menu at each location, the cost would be $285. We have the DDE/TIW (Tables in Wonderland) which would take 20% off most meals bringing the total to $228 for MEALS ONLY. I would figure $20/day for snacks for a total of $100. That would be $328 for MEALS and SNACKS.

If my dining plan numbers are correct, the DDP is $38/day for adults and $10/day for kids. The total/day for the DDP ONLY is $58/day for a total of $232. This would include 4 TS, 4 CS and 4 snacks correct???

In this instance, it's better for us to use the dining plan correct? Or am I wrong because we had to pay for CRT when booking correct? That would leave me all four credits to use and be able to book another TS meal if needed to use all of the credits. Thanks to the DIS for reminding me of this-I was thinking I had to use 2 TS credits for this!

It looks to me like the DDP is the way to go for this trip. Just need a little confirmation that that's the "right" way to go for us. I know it's a very personal decision but just running the numbers, it's best right?

Also, I've read that the Plaza is NOT included on the DDP-that would leave me yet another credit to use (or try to swap something else in place of the Plaza). Any suggestions about other places to try?? I'd love to go back to TH-it was amazing on our last trip in Sept. Also on our 'short list' are Cape May, Crystal Palace, Coral Reef (atmosphere was amazing last time!), Garden Grill, Chef Mickey's or 1900 Park Fare.

I'm open to any suggestions! :goodvibes Thank you DIS'ers!

If I'm understaning correctly you are staying off property for the whole trip? If that is the case you cannot purchase the dining plan. The only way to get the dining plan is to buy a disney magic your way package with dining.

Sorry no I didn't make that clear. We're checking into AKL CL the morning of 12/13.

Also, another thought, (this is why I need DIS'ers!), if I already paid for CRT, my cost for meals would only be $199 less the DDE 20% of $39.80 for a total of $159.20.

Math is so not my strong suit at all!!! Can someone please explain it to me so I can understand??? :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 I think a lot is just pressure-I *have* to make the 'right' decision! :sad2:

Thanks so much for any help you can give me!!

The Plaza IS on the DDP fyi. Id say get the DDP. I went with my 3 year old daughter and Storybook would have cost us almost $70

do you have the Disney visa? If so, you might be able to get the free dining for some of your dates. I think it's available for Disney Visa cardholder 12/14-12/20. Worth checking it out if you have that Visa card.

And even if you've already paid for CRT, if you choose to get the DDP, and then want to use DDP credits for CRT instead, they will credit the $$ you already paid back to your credit card. It might take a month for the credit to show up on your credit card bill, but it will.

$228 - Meals Only
$14.82 - Tax On Meals

I would figure $20/day for snacks for a total of $100. That would be $328 for MEALS and SNACKS.

Snacks you need to figure apples to apples. 5 days of snacks equaling $100 may well be what you consume. The DDP will only cover four nights of snacks, for three people 12 total snack credits or 16 total snack credits for a party of 4. Total of 12 snacks at $4 per snack (and you'll push to get the full $4 out of snacks) - $48. Total of 16 snacks at $4 per snack - $64. The other $62/$36 will be out of your pocket even on the DDP

If my dining plan numbers are correct, the DDP is $38/day for adults and $10/day for kids. The total/day for the DDP ONLY is $58/day for a total of $232. This would include 4 TS, 4 CS and 4 snacks correct???

No, that would cover three credits per day. $38 Adult #1. - $10 Child #1 - $10 Child #2

If yo have two adults it'll be $38 Adult #1 - $38 Adult #2 - $10 Child #1 - $10 Child #2 Total of $96/night of stay

Party of 3 - 4 Nights
DDP - $58/Night - $232 plus OOP Snacks = $294

Party of 4 - 4 Nights
DDP - $96/Night - $384 plus OOP Snacks = $420

OOP - according to your calculations - $328 Tax on that will be $20.67 - GRAND TOTAL OOP $348.67

I spent several days doing the same kind of calculations for our trip, but after doing both of the plans, we've decided to pick the DDE (Tables in Wonderland) for our next trip - not because it's cheaper, but because we can eat what we want to. We got tired of eating "an entree and a dessert" way before the trip was over. And even though we love desserts, we've decided to have healthier meals on our next trip.

I was thinking about OP's dining plan, and as they discovered they are either over one credit if they use credits for CRT, or they are under one credit. You are also leaving 4 CS meals on the table according to your original numbers.

Plan 1
Sci Fi - $60
Princess Dining - $60
OOP CRT - $86
Plaza - $40
Restaurant to replace CRT - $50

CS - $30
CS - $30
CS - $30
CS - $30

Snacks Day 1 - $16
Snacks Day 2 - $16
Snacks Day 3 - $16
Snacks Day 4 - $16

OOP Snacks - $36

Plan 1 Grand Total $516
Plan 1 DDP Cost - $542 (DDP + OOP Snacks + CRT OOP)

Plan 2

Sci Fi - $60
Princess Dining - $60
CRT - $86
OOP Plaza - $40

CS - $30
CS - $30
CS - $30
CS - $30

Snacks Day 1 - $16
Snacks Day 2 - $16
Snacks Day 3 - $16
Snacks Day 4 - $16

OOP Snacks - $36

Plan 2 Grand Total $476
Plan 2 DDP Cost - $496 (DDP + OOP Snacks + Plaza OOP)

I am figuring the CS's at about $10/Adult and each child is set for $4.49

I still think snacks are high. It's much harder to get $4 of value, you can, but you need to work at it. It's more likely they'll be used for $2.00 waters as well and that will decrease your snack value.

THANK YOU all so much for your thoughts/imput! :worship:

I knew you would have the answers!

One thing I should have been more clear about-we're only getting the DDP for myself, DH and DS4. We're not getting tickets for our youngest DS1 so he will not be included in the dining plan either. Sorry I forgot to mention that! I know that we'll be paying for some OOP, which we're ok with.

I think we're going to stick with the DDP and just pay OOP for anything else we might want. For whatever we pay for, we'll use our DDE card to get the discount. I'm not too worried about the meal and dessert-we'll make that call meal to meal. From what I'm seeing, we're saving money with the dining plan not figuring in the costs of desserts so even if we didn't use them, we're still ahead. We can also get the desserts "to go" (fruit cups and such for the kiddos) and let them snack while we're on our way to the next ride. (Ask for it to be in a cup instead of a take out box for something smaller and easier for them to use!).

Again, thank you all so very much! Glad to know this works for our family!!!:flower3:
