on the 17th my wife and i will be going to okw and it being our first trip i was wondering if the check in time of 4pm was firm or if you arrive early you can go to the room early. policy says that you can use the facilities but that's not the same as going to the room and relaxing .

You can check in as early as you like, but your room does not have to be ready until 4. Sometimes you can luck out, others you have to wait :(

We've lucked out and had the room ready before the 4PM check-in time, but it does not HAVE to be ready til 4PM.

We stayed at Vero Beach last year and got there at about 1:00. The room wasn't ready and they told us to come back in about 1 hour. We kept going back and needless to say, we weren't able to check in until after 5:30pm. I was beyond upset at that point because they would not switch my room number to a room that was ready. Actually, we found out our room had been ready but no one from housekeeping gave the okay that our room was ready. What really ticked me off was that the front desk person actually said to me that they didn't have to have my room ready at 4:00 and they never promise anyone a room will be ready at that time. They just start letting people go into their rooms at that time. I wanted to shout back - "I am a member here an you work for me - Now you are fired." Oh well.

Actually, check in time is anytime AFTER 4pm.
From the members site:

What time is check-in and check-out?
Check-in is anytime after 4:00 p.m. (please notify the front desk, or Member Services if you're planning a late arrival), and check-out is by 11:00 a.m. For the consideration of all guests (as well as our busy housekeeping staff), we ask that you please do your best to respect these time frames.

I realize check-in is at after 4:00pm and that they will occasionally have rooms ready before. But I think you should be able to check into your room after 4:00 and not have to wait an additional 1.5 to 2 hours because someone won't switch your room number they originally assigned you. Our guidelines say you can check in anytime after 4pm. The keyword is "anytime". If this is not the case, then they either need to clarify what they mean by 'Check-In' or they need to state, "You can check in anytime after 4pm but your room may not be ready."

I agree with you, I was just clarifying that is after 4 not at 4.
Unfortunately, after 4 can be anytime. Often you don't have to wait until 4pm to get your room.

This was not directed at you personally.

I just got my confirmation for OKW for next May. It reads:

CHECK-IN TIME for the Vacation Home is 4:00pm.

CHECK-OUT TIME is 11:00am.

"anytime after" is not included in the wording on the confirmation.

I agree 5:30 is too late, someone should have checked into why it was not ready before then. If the reason was housekeeping didn't have it marked as done, someone should have checked and it could have been easily taken care of. One time we were checking into the Beach Club and our room was not ready at 4:00pm, the front desk cm personally went to the room to check it, they hadn't even started it (our assigned room was on the second floor, not far from the lobby up the steps)! So she found us another room.
