Check in Question and MBs and such

So we have our magic bands sitting in our living rooms now

Does this mean that they are "ready to go" right now??? Or do we still need to go to our resort check in to get them "activated"??

Reason I ask is.. we are heading back this Friday and on the Saturday morning we would like to go straight to DAK for rope drop. We plan on actually checking in at VWL later that afternoon. So are our Magic Bands ready right now for us to visit a park? We have our annual passholders acct linked to them.
