Check In Day

What is check in day like? I know that check in is from 9-12, but is there anything we have to do after that? Or do we just use the rest of the day to get settled in and stuff?

Check in day is pretty busy from what I hear. You check in (they usually start early, so be there ASAP) which is a pretty long process on it's own where you find out your apartment location, etc. Then you have to take the bus to Casting, where you file through the building filling out tons of paperwork and finding out your work location. Then you have a housing meeting after that.

You probably won't have to do anything on Day 2. On Day 3 you go to Traditions, which takes about 4 hours. You find out about The Disney Way, play some fun games, and just learn how Disney works. You'll also get your cast ID and find out your training schedule, I believe. Afterwards, since you now have your ID, you are free to go to the parks or do whatever you want.

That's about how it goes, but I'm sure someone who has actually been through it can give a better answer.

BabyPiglet, you got it right you check-in, and find out your apartment and then you get about an hour to go to your apartment and start moving in. then you have to take a bus (or drive) to Casting and then you stand in loooonnngg lines to finish your paperwork and find out where you will be working.
The first part of check-in goes pretty smoothly but when you get to Casting, it takes a while so make sure you eat if you can before you go, and be prepared to stand in lines for a while.
Day 2 there is usually a housing meeting that doesn't take very long- they just go over the common-sense rules and ways to act and stuff that will make living here easier for you and the security. Then the rest of your day is free
Day 3 is Traditions- they have actually changed it so now you aren't sitting in a classroom for the whole 4 hours, you actually get to do a little tour of the MK from what I hear (I am not quite sure since I had a Traditions Bypass)

I had a quick question. If I get excepted. *praying* I will be driving down with someone. What can that person do while I am getting checked in? Can they get the hotel discount even though I have been down there for a day? Will I have time to take them to the airport?

There's a family & friends tent for them to hang out in.. I don't know if it's much fun, but it's there. You don't have the discount until you can get into the HUB, which isn't until after Traditions, so you need to find other accomodations (the Holiday Inn Sunspree is right in the middle of all the complexes, and it's a nice hotel, IMO). The second day, you should have time to take them to the airport, unless you're entertainment, I believe. My roommate was a PFLA and she had to do stuff for a few hours the second day. You should be able to find some time that first week to get to the airport, though.


Also, I had my housing meeting on check-in day, so I had about 2 hours to move in/get lunch, then a 3 hour housing meeting that night.

You know, that is great advice. I haven't even thought about eating, lol. I guess would be best to eat a really big breakfast? I won't have a car, but I plan on staying at a Disney resort, so I guess I could eat something at the foodcourt. I hadn't even thought about it! It will be so early when I leave, that I figured I'd just...go, but I probably won't have time to eat until some ridiculous late hour. So thank you!

I've actually heard of people (people who plan on rooming together) meeting up together and eating breakfast somewhere. That might be a good plan?

There will be a little tent thing/tour for the parents and guests I think. You can't get a resort discount until you get your ID, which isn't til day 3. And you may have time on day 1 to take someone to the airport, however you'd definitely have time on day 2.

I assume you're using a GPS? That will get you to the main gate, and from there, there's signs to where you park/check in/etc. You turn from SR 535 in between the Walgreens and Chick-fil-A.

Casting, no, Traditions, yes. Don't worry about being dressed up for check-in. They'll make sure you KNOW what you need to be dressed up for.

Im applying for Fall 2010 and if I get in, I was thinking to arrive one day before the check in. I find a Comfort Inn (Lake Buena Vista) for $66 a night (was the chipper one) less than a mile away from the complex. Probably I would take a taxi to the check in complex (I put in the direction that was give here by another person, 13501 Meadow Creek Dr, Orlando, FL). But I been thinking about the luggage, and I just want to know if the first thing you do is go to the complex and check in and then go right to your apartment?

one more question do a Disney bus take you to the complex or you have to get there on your own?

This year there is a tent with chairs, but no tour.

I would guess that would be the easier thing to do (so you don't have to go back to the hotel and get the luggage). There is a spot to leave your stuff at Vista.

Also, you have to get to Vista on your own. But if you end up at Patterson or Chatham, there will be a bus to get you there after check-in.

Plus you'd get free transportation from the resort to DTD and the parks.

Pop Century would cost $134 a day (August 5) transportation is include (no food no parks). But how much would cost a taxi? if is around $30 would be less expensive to stay off property plus eating in Disney is expensive no matter what I was there last November and I don't regret getting the quick service deal! lol
