Just a question about using a Visa Check card/Debit card.

If I use my Visa check card as the credit card when I check in at PoP Century, how much of a hold is placed on the account?

We like so many people do not have a credit card, but use our Visa check card/ debit card to pay for things. The room is pre-paid so, it will only be used to pay for room charges and anytime we use our resort ID to charge. We are budgeting for the trip and would like to know so we have enough money in our account to cover the hold and any purchases we make.

Thanks

domiii,

We too only use our Visa Check/Debit card. Can't stand regular credit cards:D The resort has never placed a hold on our debit card and we always use it for our room charges. We've never had a problem doing this.

Enjoy your stay at Pop!

I have had this happen when using at check card at other hotels. I believe Disney resorts do $500.

Try calling Guest Services, or paging Tyler since he can probably answer this question...

I know your maximum spending limit is $500 before you have to go and "renew" your account, but I don't think they actually put anything on hold. They probably just verify that the debit card is legitimate, and then don't charge anything to it until you've (A) reached the $500 limit, or (B) checked out, whichever comes first.

We stayed at Pop in February and used a debit card....a hold was never placed on our card and we were told we had a $500 *limit*, meaning once our room charges went over $500 our card would be charged....upon checkout our card was charged......but there was never a hold placed on it...

I'm only staying 2 nights (at ASMu), and purchasing a one-day pass for Epcot only. I have a dim idea that I need a PH or UPH to put charges on my room bill. Does anyone know if that's true? Even if I can charge to the room, is it really worth it (is it really so much more convenient) for such a short stay?

Disney has never put a hold on our Visa check card. We have used it several times for room charges etc. At the end of the stay all the charges will run through so you had better have the money in there then - like on the morning of check-out. WL has always given us a $1500 limit. Don't know this for sure, but I believe this limit is different for deluxes, mods and value.

I have used the same Visa check card at Universal and they do put a few hundred dollars hold on the card immediately at check-in.

I agree, it must be different at the different levels of resorts... I spent over $3000 on my most recent Beach Club trip... never had to "renew" or anything... and everything was charged at the end of the trip...

My understanding is that you don't have to renew but what the hotel will do is once you have hit your limit they will charge the amount and then do another increase.

The levels for the resorts are $500 for value resorts, $1000 for moderates and I believe $1500 for deluxes. Once you reach that level they automatically charge your card and you start over. We just returned from Pop a couple weeks ago and used our Visa Debit card. There was no hold put on the card. Once we used up $500 they charged the card and then started over. We never had to go to the front desk for anything. It is really convenient. It was nice not having to worry about seperate room keys, tickets and charge cards. (too many cards to keep track of) It was all on one card.

i have frankly never seen why charging to the card is any better than just using your visa or whatever when you eat or make a purchase, they all end up on the same place. and then you don't have to worry about holds by hotel or whatever.

You do not need to have any PH or UPH to charge to the room key. When you check in you can give them a credit card/debit card/cash and then they will give you charging privileges on the room key. Park passes can also be put on the room key but that is a different story.:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Don'y worry, we *never* use a credit card we use a debit card and always get a credit limit of $1000.00 to $1500.00 with *no hold* on our card.

Hope this helps!

When you check in, you'll be asked if you want to charging privleges on you room keys.

If you agree to do this, they run a hold on $1, this is simply to verify that your card is active.

Once that's done, if you don't request any specific limit, at the values you'll have a $500 limit, at the moderates, a $1000 limit, and at the deluxes, a $1500 limit. If you don't like those numbers, you can have any amount you want as long as it's UNDER those figures. Those are the maximums.

The reason I like using the room key versus dragging out my credit/debit card every time is that if you misplace your room card, it can be replaced IMMEDIATELY!!!!

If you misplace your credit/debit card it will take a minimum of 24 hours to get you a new one.

Everyone uses their cards/cash more often at WDW than they do in normal life, so they are pulled out more often, and the chances of them disappearing are easier.

Also, even though most of the WDW cast is honest, the fewer folks that actually see my credit/debit card #, the better I like it.

The other reason I like to use the room card is the CC we use is mine alone, so on the room key I can let hubby and the boys charge, so when we separate, we can all get what we need to drink or eat.

Disney resorts are one of the few places where I've never had a hold placed on my credit card. It's really nice.:D

None of the Disney hotels have put a hold on my debit card. However, the Dolphin put a $50 hold on it, but we charged a total of $51.25, so I owed them $1.25 when I checked out (yes, I paid it!)
