CheapTickets $25 cancellation fee? Anyone see this?

I was planning to book my reservation through CheapTickets, but I saw this in the terms:

  • We understand that sometimes plans fall through. We do not charge a cancel or change fee. When the hotel charges such fees in accordance with its own policies, the cost will be passed on to you. Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge charges the following cancellation and change fees.
  • Cancellations or changes made before 4:00 PM (Eastern Daylight Time (US & Canada)) on Jul 1, 2016 or no-shows are subject to a $25.00 hotel fee.

So does Disney charge CheapTickets a cancellation fee and they pass it on to us? I know that Disney does not charge a $25 cancellation fee.

It is not that big of a deal, but I have never noticed this fee before.

Yup, Orbitz is now charging a $25 cancellation fee also. Expedia recently bought both Orbitz and Cheap Tickets and have instituted these changes. No, it is not WDW charging this fee.

Interesting. Then isn't their statement false that AKL is the one that charges these fees? They specifically say that they are not the ones charging the fee.

I am trying to decide whether to keep my current ressie through Disney or save about $200 through CheapTickets. I have no intention of canceling, but for the principle of the matter, I like knowing that I can cancel without penalty if something were to come up. $25 is not a big deal - and especially not considering the $200 savings, but I still have a little "reservation" (couldn't resist the pun) in rebooking through CheapTickets.

Sure sounds that way. Unless there has been some change in WDW policy that they charge these 3rd party booking sites a cancellation fee that they are now passing on to the end Customer. But they do not charge any cancellation fee to the Travel Agencies that WDW sells large blocks of rooms to at Convention rates.

I understand and would feel the same way.

Ugh - I just checked Orbitz and same thing. I had to click on the "Terms" link to even learn of it - and only did so because of your thread.

I booked a room onsite through Orbitz yesterday, and no where does it mention this (without clicking on a multi-page 'terms' link - who does that when they know the hotel itself charges no fee (I guess I do now!!).

Thanks OP! I'm guilty of being a resort changer in the past, so while $25 isn't a big deal its still good to know.

Yes! Saw that yesterday and it surprised me. Would never have thought to check that rules link if someone on Dis hadn't mentioned the sites were recently bought by Expedia. Always thankful for the help on this site!!

Disney is not charging this fee. And apparently, it does not show up on all reservations. It may be so that they only charge it on reservations where one has used a promotional code, but I haven't tested that.

Interesting. They specifically say that it is not their fee. I would like to know when it applies and when it does not.

After I saw it, I went back to my original reservation through Disney and double-checked the terms and conditions- no fee mentioned there at all for reservations canceled outside of the five day window.

I don't understand the BEFORE 4:00pm July 1 part, is that the date of your reservation? What if you make the change AFTER 4:00pm on July 1?

The reservation starts July 6th. I did not copy and paste the other terms, which say that if I cancel after July 1st there is a one night room charge plus taxes and fees. That is Disney's normal policy so I don't question that.

Apparently, once you make the reservation through CheapTickets, there is a $25 fee to cancel it, even if you cancel it one day after you make it.

I just made a res yesterday via CheapTickets. That language is not reflected in my terms/conditions. I'm staying at POR and it had a free cancellation notice. Some other resorts didn't say that. Maybe those are the ones they're talking about?

I know that I've never been charged a fee to cancel through Disney.
