Cheapest days to fly

We are thinking of heading down to The World in early May. Are there certain days of the week when airfares are less? We are looking to fly out of O'hare (Chicago) and currently round trip tickets on United are about $243 - a bit high. (Midway airport is too far for us, and the flights out of Rockford are not at good times.)

Thanks!

Sometimes, it isn't a matter of day of week as much as time of day. Make your outbound flight in the evening, and make your return flight in the morning, and you may save money. For example:

United Airlines (Details)

Leave:
May 6 9:05pm Depart Chicago (ORD)
Arrive Orlando (MCO) 12:39am Nonstop

Return:
May 11 11:36am Depart Orlando (MCO)
Arrive Chicago (ORD) 1:29pm Nonstop

That itinerary is $192 per person, just about as inexpensive as you can hope for.

For just $14 more, you can get some better timed flights:

Leave:
May 6 9:50am Depart Chicago (ORD)
Arrive Orlando (MCO) 4:24pm 1 Stop

Return:
May 11 1:14pm Depart Orlando (MCO)
Arrive Chicago (ORD) 4:59pm 1 Stop

Thanks for the information. I will definitely check out flying out at different times of the day and see what that does to the price.

Go to www.travelocity.com or www.orbitz.com and they will do the work for you. They will sort through and give you the cheapest times. Once you get that information I would go to the airlines website and alot of times the price will be better. It's always worth a try!

While the above advice is good (about certain times of the day usually being cheaper) did you consider hotel costs?

We usually fly out Saturday early AM and return the next Saturday late PM. Usually those flights are slightly more expensive due to the times, but we like to have an almost full first and last day in the parks. Yes it is usually cheaper for us to leave late Friday evening but then we have to worry about an extra nights hotel/parking. Or if we leave later Saturday we lose a whole day in the parks. Same thing from the return. It is usually cheaper to leave Saturday early AM, but again we lose a whole day in the parks. Or if we leave Sunday AM, we need to pay for a hotel another night.

So, to make a long story short, we look at the value of getting the exact flight times we want in more than just monetary costs. Now if we were saving hundreds of dollars, it might cause us to rething plans, but for $50 or $60 bucks, I would rather stick to our preferred schedule.
