Cheapest day to fly?

Just curious and I always have luck finding answers on the DIS! We have very flexible dates. Is there a general rule for flying that says flying on Xday is always cheaper than flying on Zday? And I have heard that there is a best day to buy flights too but it has been so long I forget!

We have found that it is a lot cheaper to fly out on a Tuesday or Wednesday then any other day of the week. It is amazing the difference between one day is (from a Monday to a Tuesday). As for the second part of your question, I have never heard of that before, but am interested to hear the answer to that

Someone told me that it is cheaper to buy tickets on the weekends. I can't remember the reasoning behind it though.
I do agree that it is cheaper to fly on Tuesday and Wednesdays.

actually on SW the best days to buy are Tuesday - Thursday, lately their sales are only 3 days.
