We are staying overnight on our way back from Disney and then spending the day, whats good there, want to hit the beach (I have a thing for beaches haha). What area is good to stay in with kids? Cheap, clean place to stay?
Thanks!

I haven't lived there for 7 years but Ocean Breeze fun park and the Marine Science Museum come to mind for fun places to visit. They have a large beach area with misc kinds of attractions. Most hotels in the area are a little older but you can find some good deals if you do some research. Hope you have fun :upsidedow.

I wouldn't worry about entertainment too much for one day/night, we always have PLENTY to do just playing at the beach and walking up and down the boardwalk and going in and out of the shops.

We prefer the Sheraton Oceanfront, we love the grounds, the pool, and being right on the ocean. It's not super cheap, though.

No rooms available for the day that we will be there, anyone know of anything else?

What about the one at 31/Ocean, I think it's a Hilton? That looked nice when we saw it, also right on the ocean. We actually just parked in their parking garage a few weeks back (they do have public parking as well, limited spots though) and walked through it and checked out their restaurants for lunch (didn't eat there but thought about it).

Thanks, looks like there are a few Hiltons, I'll check them out now!
I looked into Marriots, nothing on the beach (all booked), but a Marriot Courtyard, didn't look too far from the beach.

We loved the Residence Inn. It's right next to the Sheraton on the beach and has a kitchenette.

She said cheap. the Hilton is anything but cheap with rooms going from $300-$400 a night. The restaurants at the Hilton are fantastic but very expensive.

There is a restaurant called Doc Martins.....BEST breakfast I have ever had. They are on a side street but worth checkin out.

Stay away from Rockfish...it's a bad chain type restaurant. We have been twice and not happy either time with the service or quality of food.

There are a lot of chain hotels. They are cheaper than the Hilton. Interestingly enough more than half of the hotels are most of the main souvenier shops are owne by Goldkey.....I dispise them. They control prices and really changed the oceanfront.

Don't do to Ocean Breeze fun park....waste of money. There is a BEACH there. The boardwalk is a lot of fun and there is something going on every night. Some kind of entertainment at 31st street. http://www.beachstreetusa.com/2010events will tell you a lot. There are street performers on every block from 17th to 31st and it's a lot of fun walking and seeing them.

There are a lot of beach restaurants on restaurant.com If you are trying to do budget check them out.

There is so much going on that I don't think you need another thing unless you really wanted to see more of the area.

Not far from the Beach is Mount Trashmore.....big mound of trash turned into a nice park. There is a skate park there and a really nice playground. It's fun to hike to the top and fly a kite. They also do activities on certian nights there.

If you can't find a cheap hotel on the beach try Towne Center of Va Beach. That is a nice area not far from the beach and they have a few hotels there I have had good luck with them and Priceline.

Have a great time. I live an hour from VB and I spend a lot of time there. I should be a travel agent from there because I LOVE the place.

I didn't believe you so I went and checked, yeah, some advance purchase rooms are under $300 (I was only looking within 2 weeks or so) but yeah, pricey.

Too bad the Sheraton is sold out, we really liked it there. I know there are lots of places that are cheaper that aren't right on the beach, but I have young kids so if I was going to go to the trouble of getting a hotel I wanted it be ocean front. If we had to drive, we might as well drive home when we are done at the beach (we live in Richmond). I wish I could be more help!
