I am looking for a cheap decent hotel to spend our first night at. We are driving down that day and will be checking in that evening. We will check in at the Wilderness Lodge first thing the next morning. We'd like to find something less than $50. Any suggestions?

Not sure of your dates, but your best bet would be to try the easyclicktravel.com website. Just make sure you choose a hotel that says "available", instead of one that says "upon request"---with the "upon request" they are really bad about getting back an answer to you in a timely manner, and for me, the answer has always been no anyway. You don't always know the exact hotel listed, but can usually figure it out with some detective work. I found the Fairfield Marriott Village listed there for $54. per night the last time I looked for a room. HTH

You are staying at an expensive Disney Hotel, yet want to save money for one day..... Yes every penny counts, but some times I just get a chuckle.

For June 5th there are many many options, Sunday being one of the slowest days of the week. I'd play it by ear. You may get tired and want to stop earlier and relax, have a swim, lounge..... If you are arriving early in Orlando (i.e. mid afternoon) you probably want a nicer place with a nice pool. If you want a good start the next morning with breakfast, you may look at a hotel that includes breakfast.... If it's raining you may have other ideas what to do, where to eat.....

I'd wait 'til the last minute or call 1-800-hampton or Holiday to get an idea of availability and costs.

The only reason we are staying at WL is I had a pin code and we got it for $130 a night. That price is still killing me, but I couldn't turn it down. I am usually a tightwad and can't bear to spend over $100 a night. It's our first trip to WDW though and I wanted to splurge a bit.

I used Dreams Unlimited (as they help sponsor this website) and we are staying at the Howard Johnson's for our arrival night. It was just over $50 with taxes. I had bid on some 3* on Priceline, but nothing was coming up for this Saturday night.

DH and I were in Orlando last weekend for a continuing education course on Sunday--we thought that was a good excuse to spend Saturday at Epcot and spend one night in Orlando!

We stayed at La Quinta Inn Lakeside for $50.00, including tax. We chose it because it generally gets good reviews on the DIS boards for an inexpensive hotel. We couldn't find a good rate on the internet, so DH called the hotel directly and got this rate. It's a large hotel with about 15 buildings. The front desk clerk told us all the rooms have been remodeled except for about half of one building, so make sure you ask for a remodeled room when you check in.

It was very clean, had a mini-refrigerator, and a nice big safe (big enough for a laptop, whichi is unusual). There was a free continental breakfast the next morning--bagels, cereal, coffee, tea, orange juice, milk, maybe a few other things, plus they have a restaurant if you prefer a full breakfast.

Our room faced a very nicely landscaped interior couryard with a pond, fountain, gazebo, etc. There are at least 2 pools but we didn't go look at them.

Good luck in your search for a hotel--and make sure you write a review for the DISboards! :earsgirl:

We are staying off-site our first night at the Grosvenor. We are paying $300/night at AKL and our flights were about $100/ticket less expensive to fly in the day before we check into AKL, so we are saving quite a bit for that one night ($700 dollars to be exact).

Thank you for the information you posted but wanted to make a comment about your first phrase. I wish I could stay onsite the first night...however, we decided after booking to drive down a day early. My package had to be booked by a certain date, so I can't change/add to it, and I can't even find something onsite for the day I need anyway due to it being basically booked up. It irks me when people make judgments about things without knowing the facts :rolleyes1 But seriously, thank you for the rest of your post. Wondering though why you suggested waiting til the last minute?? Better deals available? Or were you being snarky? :p
