Where do all you dis budgeters shop for your groceries at? Would love ideas as I thanks to all of you decided to get on board and spend less.

Holly

Hi Holly. I don't know if there are Aldi stores where you are, but I tend to make a trip there before I go to the grocery store. Their prices on some items are MUCH cheaper than at the regular grocery stores.

I too, start every grocery trip with aldi. I get about 75% of my groceries there... perhaps a bit more.

Aldi all the way! I do about 90-95% of all my shopping there.

I'm on a tight budget, so if it isn't at Aldi, I don't need it anyway!

Plus, it's the closest grocery store to me, and going to just one store cuts down on transportation costs.

aldi's for snacks like popcorn, milk, bread, bananas, frozen pizzas. It is 2 blocks away from son's preschool so I can pretty much plan dinner from there in a pinch

Meijers for meat and frozen veggies. Usually diet coke/pepsi at Meijers also because they alternate sales weeks.

their is a farmer's market place nearby that has the best fresh vegetables.

toilet paper, shampoo, stuff like that I keep an eye on who is having a sale when i run low and then stock up.

Wal Mart, dollar store, family dollar etc for cleaning supplies etc.

I go to winco, sometimes super walmart. If im lazy I do Safeway.com......they deliver;)

Meijer 60%
CVS 10%
Kroger 10%

All others 20%-depends on weekly ads. I buy very little meat from Meijer/Kroger. Most produce comes from Meijer as we do not have any year round farm markets here, in fact a local TV station shot pics of "farmers" purchasing produce at Meijer here and reselling it as homegrown at the downtown market held in the summer.

Aldi 50%
Super Walmart 30%
Sam's Club 10%

The rest is by ads, whoever has something cheap that week.

I start at GO, Grocery Outlet. Yep, it's a real grocery outlet that sells overstocks, dented cans, etc. plus dairy, meat, and produce. Then I go to the regular grocery store, either Walmart or Bi-Lo. I do stock up on meat at Sam's (if they have markdowns the last day the meat can be sold) or wherever it is on sale. I try to hit Bi-Lo on Wednesday morning when the sale meat from the previous week has an extra coupon to get rid of it.

We don't usually skimp on groceries. We buy mostly organic at the co op nowadays. The family health is not worth it - I've gotten very concerned about the number of chemicals, hormones and processed foods that go into my kids. There are better things to save on that what goes inside your family.

Some other places to check though - ethnic markets are frequently very good sources of a lot of cheap rice/beans and spices. Cooking from scratch can let you control what goes in your food, while simulateously saving money - bread from scratch (especially sourdough) is around $.25 a loaf and cookies are way cheaper. Limit meat and get your protein from beans.
