Cheap but sturdy kitchen storage?

We've moved to a smaller house with no pantry or closet near the kitchen. I do have an alcove I could put shelves in. I need to store cans, bottles, books, school supplies, etc.

Any suggestions where to get shelves that are very sturdy but not very expensive?

Lowes has an entire area in the store for shelving and storage and reasonably priced too.

Anyone handy? Get some free wooden pallets, pull apart, sand, paint and make into shelves. Many ways to hang them free or uber cheap just gotta think outside the box.

You can use these. Not exactly super cheap but not terribly expensive. Plus since they have doors you won't have to look at the stuff.

DH says these shelves are very sturdy. He saw them at Sams yesterday and is going back next week to get some for our garage

I just bought a storage unit from Ikea that I love. Originally bought it for the boys room, but it didn't fit. It comes in a few different colors and it about 5 1/2 feet tall but about 4 1/2 feet wide. there are 9 cube spots in it and I bought some of Ikea's plastic cubes and some wicker colored ones from Target. Sorry, I don't recall the name of the design, but one or two would fit great in your area

I agree with the previous poster on the IKEA shelving unit. I think the Expedit series is what she is suggesting:

There are different sizes and you can get boxes that fit into the cubbies. You can also buy doors that go on each cubby if you want to hide stuff. My son has these in his room and they are great.
