Looking for some "budget" tips. My husband and I are going down for a long weekend inJuly. since we're leaving the kiddos behind it would be nice to hand out at the resort and have a few cold ones. We normally use a grocery delivery service but literally all we want is a 12 pack of beer. Has anyone ever gone to the Hess's Gas station near downtown disney and got beer? Do they have wine, also? How are the prices? Buying bottles at the resort store is sooooo expensive! Any tips, guys?

My sons purchased their beer at the gas station across from Downtown Disney. They checked with the Disney busdriver on our way over to DTD and were told it was fine to carry on the bus as long as they didn't open it. It was MUCH cheaper for them than buying at the resort. They did this twice during our trip.

One bus driver actually told them he was surprised more people didn't do it but we saw five or six other people doing it as well. The bus stops near Planet Hollywood are right across the street from the gas station.

Thanks so much for your post. We are staying at SSR so it should be pretty easy! Thanks a lot.

We have bought beer at Hess. It is more expensive than a grocery store, but much cheaper than at the resort!

Just go to the SSR general store. It's a bit more expensive but you won't be wasting a bunch of time going to the Hess gas station.

If you're a military ID card holder, the AAFES General Store on Shades of Green is the best way to go.

Otherwise, the Hess Express stations on property all have beer/soda/snacks at what I like to call "non-Disney prices".

That is a great idea! Especially if you have older sons you can send! :thumbsup2 ;) Ours will be eventually, too soon, (they grow too fast!) and I will definitely remember this great tip! :thumbsup2

Mine were 21 and 24 this last trip. They would pick up a case and keep it cold in a cooler. We were there for 9 days and they picked up a case twice and shared them with the other guys they met and hung out with in the evening. Hess was a godsend to a bunch of young guys on a budget :)

we have bought at Hess also, easy to cross the street carried it on the bus once. Have bought Jack Daniels at the poly as well, a little expensive.

Anyone know if Hess carries any wine or spirits? Also are grocery items cheaper than the resort stores?

they have some cheap wine, last time I was there (May), they had barefoot for around $7.00 a bottle. There may have been other brands, but I didn't see any.

thanks! We're going this weekend. I'll try to remember to post some examples with prices when we get back.

No I'm not. SSR is a DVC resort and they sell beer by the 6 pack and they are NOT $30 per 6-pack.

Wanna make a bet, go to the gift shop/store at ANY Disney Resort and you will pay $6 per, basically $36 a six pack. You gotta be kidding me, it is the same at all of them..... I've made the run to Hess across from DTD and it is well worth every single minute of time it took to walk over there. ;)

Last time I checked DVC resorts sold SIX PACKS of beer. Not just individual bottles of beer. They are certainly more expensive than the beer at the Hess station but less expensive than buying it individually. I think they are about $12-$15 per 6-pack. If the OP is only buying a 6-pack or two it's probably not worth going to the Hess. If he's looking to buy more than that then the trek to the Hess is worthwhile. My advise is to check the general store first and then go to the Hess if it's too expensive.

When we stayed at the Boardwalk this May we walked over to the Hess Station and payed $1.00 per 16 ounce can of beer. If I remember correct they had Budweiser, Bud Light, Coors Light and maybe 2 or 3 others. After spending the day around the World Showcase $1 a beer was a bargain. Another cheap option for anyone staying at the Swan/Dolphin is to have beer delivered to your room, it is $6/6 pack. My husband stayed there for a convention and we found out about this on their website.

This USED to be the case, but I think about 6 - 12 months ago Disney did away with the 6 packs and only sell by the bottle now ... even at DVC resorts :confused3

This is a great tip! Does the swalphin sell beer or wine in their gift shop? I've never thought to check!

I posted this question on the hotels thread and received the following response:

The gift shops [at swalphin] do not sell beer or wine ..... You can get beer in the personal pantry in Picabu for $6-$8 for 6 cans of Bud lite, Miller Lite, or Corona.

I saw these guys carrying a case of beer coming from Pleasure Island. I am not sure where you get beer around there.
