After breakfast in the lobby we dashed out to the beach for the morning. The boys played well until DS4 apparently got ticked about something, grabbed a handful of sand and threw it in his brother's eye!
DS8 began to howl, of course, DH saw the whole thing happen and dashed over to help DS8. I didn't see it at its worst, but DH said sand was caked in DS's eye.
Fortunately he managed to cry a lot of it out, and DH just kept wiping around his eyes to get the sand out of the way as it came out. I grabbed DS4 and put him in time out, then made him go apologize to his brother.
When we were hungry, DH and the boys went back to the room while I drove to grab some food. I wanted fish and chips and the boys wanted burgers, so I had the brilliant idea to hit up a fish and chips place first, then go through the drive through at McD's. Problem with that was, with every room in town booked, EVERY PLACE was massively busy. I ordered the fish & chips fairly quickly, but it took half an hour to get it. Then I sat in the drive through at McD's for half an hour as well, returning to the hotel an
hour after I dropped everyone off.
So we ate, and it didn't look like DS4 was in the mood to nap, so we took a drive up the coast, thinking he might just crash in the car. We stopped at a beach near Moclips, thinking it would be sunnier than Ocean Shores. It actually was foggier! The fog was so thick we couldn't see 5 feet in front of us! DH was undeterred, however, and drove a bit and then parked. Again we hauled out the sand toys and the kids began to play happily. I took a walk along the beach, presumably down toward the water. I could hear it but not see it, but eventually the sand got wetter and wetter.
I heard a noise behind me and found DS4 had followed me. This made me a little nervous, because cars were driving around and unable to see, very likely totally unable to see a little guy!
We walked the beach a bit, looking for shells or sand dollars. Normally we find TONS of sand dollars, but this time not a one. No whole shells, either, it was a total bust. I was nervous about walking around in such thick fog, worried about either getting run over by someone going too fast, or getting too far from our vehicle and having trouble finding it again. So we walked back away from the water without having ever found it, then from one parked vehicle we headed back toward our own, and found it without any trouble.
We were there less than an hour, then drove on up to Moclips to a little resort called Ocean Crest. They have a cool gift shop that I love to poke around in. I found cool t-shirts for the whole family. The one for the boys and DH is a navy t-shirt with a beautiful eagle on it, and is entitled something like: ADVICE FROM AN EAGLE. It has sayings on it like "Soar as high as you can reach" and "Bald is beautiful".
The one I chose for myself is ADVICE FROM A LADYBUG, it's very cute and on a red shirt.
We headed back to Ocean Shores then, stopping in the hotel room to clean up a bit before heading to our dinner reservation at the Shiloh Inn. I love dining there, they have a really nice menu and a beautiful location on the beach with huge windows. The boys had pasta with red sauce and I had a really nice pork chop with mushrooms and sauce, and a baked potato. (I have NEVER seen a pork chop this thick before, YIKES! I couldn't finish it!) I'm not remembering what DH had, but he seemed to enjoy it.
Once back at the hotel DH filled up that beautiful jacuzzi tub again, and the boys all soaked and watched TV. I again had some lovely reading time. After that we turned in for the night.
Vacation time always seems to go so quickly, doesn't it? That was the longest trip to Ocean Shores we've ever had, and it just flew by. I want to go back already!
