Chat Feature Gone?

Sorry if this has been discussed but I searched and could not find it. Is the chat feature no longer available on the DVC site? The last three days I have been on the site and the link is no longer on the booking screen and under "contact us" it says "Live chat is currently unavailable". Is it gone? I used to love using it to make simple changes to reservations.
 
Has anyone found the chat feature useful?
I tried to merge 2 reservations (back to back in the same location and room type) into 1 to avoid multiple MB and having to change rooms. I was told I needed to either email or call. I tried email and never got a response. In the end, I had to call and wait 15 minutes to talk to someone.
 

I find it useful for simple questions. Can I do this...., could you check..... But for any changes to vacations, was always told I had to call. I used them three times this morning. I had some points transfer in. First I didn't seem them.....ok.......then can these points be banked?......yes......please explain the banking and home resort rule for these points. I've never had points transferred in before and didn't know all the details. I had planned just to use them, but then I realized these were BLT points, let's use the SSR ones first. Thus all the questions.
 
I finally got it to work. I use the chat feature to make changes to existing reservations. Today I used the chat to change the names of the guests and the addresses on a reservation I. Much faster than the 13 minute wait I was told I would have when I tried to call.

When I tried in the past, I got "we cannot do this on the chat" more often than I liked, so now I just send an email. It's quicker than calling and helps to state exactly what you want to avoid mistakes. If I ask to reallocate points for example, I always state what I would expect at the end of the change (how many points in each UY).
I also think sending an email helps MS with their load. They can look at emails when they don't calls in the queue, helping other members to get to an operator sooner if they have something they need to discuss over the phone.
 
Be sure to use the CONTACT US feature from the Members' website when you email.
 
I used the chat feature on Sat. All I wanted to do was add my dh to a stay, in Jan. The CM told me, after taking a fair amount of time checking, that he couldn't add my dh because I had already added DME to that reservation. I asked him if he was sure...he said yes, I already booked DME. And that I would have to call MS to add him.
So, today I called MS today. The CM added my dh to the reservation. I asked him if I had made DME reservations for that stay. Nope, nothing there! He happily added it for me. I told him I had been told that I had already made DME reservations by a chat CM. He didn't say anything, other than that now I do have it.
I haven't found the chat feature to be very useful at all.
