Chase's Disney Visa?

Has anyone "upgraded" to the new disney visa offer? Pros and Cons please.

Yes... we did. After careful consideration we did. Figured we would get back a lot more than the $49 it cost to upgrade. I think we are going to use some of the $$ towards our airline tickets. As far as I can tell, the only con would be the $$ to upgrade.

We "upgraded" as well. We spend enough that we more than cover the $49 with the extra 2% on the three categories. We figure we'll make out more than a wash. We'll see.

And we like the option to use the points for airline tickets. It gives a little more flexibility.

I did the math and upgraded as well. I did the promotion where the first 90 days is 5% for gas, groceries and restaurants. That is all I basically use my card for, so it make sense to do the upgrade. I have a trip planned for Oct and Nov this year!!:cool1:

We upgraded, too. I've already earned back the annual fee for this year.

Have you actually looked at your statements and done the math on teh 5% rewards? Mine isn't adding up. I need to call their customer service. If you look at your 2% reward for grocery, gas, and restaurant, then divide that total by 2 to give you a 1% total, then multiply that 1% by 5 to get what 5% should be (since they don't list it), it does not add up to the "bonus rewards". I'm not sure it's calculating correctly.

Thanks for saying something. I'd just assumed a bank knew how to do math, and never looked at it that closely. I created an Excel spreadsheet from my last 3 statements to do the math, and mine doesn't add up either. On the most recent statement, it looks like they gave me an extra $1.50 on the bonus line. On the statement before, though, they shorted me about $10 bonus reward dollars. On the statement before that, I was shorted about $3. What throws me the most, though, is that the bonus reward dollar line is a different % of the total of the four 2% lines on all three statements.

I called Chase customer service and asked if there was something I was missing. The customer care representative explained how to do the calculation, which was exactly how I was doing it. I said it didn't add up when I did it, and asked her to go through the numbers with me on the three statements. We did the math together and came up with the same answers I'd computed earlier. This confused her, so the solution she offered me is that someone from marketing will contact me in the next 5-7 business days via mail with the exact details of how my extra bonus reward dollars were computed.

I'm sure they're going to forward some obscure small print from the cardholder agreement that excludes certain very specific things from the bonus 3%, but I suppose it could also be a good ol' fashioned computer glitch.

I called and upgraded last night. We will be at WDW 5/31-6/9, so we should be able to take advantage of the 5% at Disney locations! I am assuming that if we charge everything to the room and pay the room charges with our Disney Premier Visa, we will get 5% cash back on the entire room charge. That should more than cover the $49 for this year :scared1:

Sounds like I'll have to keep a close eye on the statements to make sure the math is done correctly. Please let us know what the person from marketing has to say, Dave.

Let me know what you find out. I was planning to call tomorrow. I called last month and the rep was puzzled. She talked to a manager who said "you just started the program. All the bonus points aren't on there yet. They'll show up next month." But they didn't. Let's see if we can solve this!

I upgraded also and now need to check my rewards - I have been so busy and so the awards piling up so I never checked thanks! Keep us posted

I upgraded my Disney Visa also. My rewards have already paid for the annual fee. My last statement also did not add up to the 5%. I called and after talking to a supervisor, the rewards were adjusted to the correct number. I think they had a lot of complaints because it was adjusted right away. I told them I am disappointed because now I have to check my rewards every bill from now on. The 2% reward numbers were correct. The extra 3% were not. My advice check you bills. They also left out A&P from the groceries.

Thanks for posting this. I just went and upgraded my card. My guess is my vacation to Disneyland and So Cal later this week alone will pay for the annual fee at 5%. My normal use of the card is actually gas and restaurants so this will really help me rack up the points each year.

we upgraded and just finished our 3 month period with 2% on everything. Part of that was during our recent trip to disney. So we used up all of our money we had accumulated and now have a large amount back on it due to the bonus first 3 months.

For us it made since because We use our card to pay just about everything and then pay off the card each month. It is basically only card we even use. Therefore, For us we make up the $49 in about 6 months worth of useage. With gas alone getting 2% we make up the $49 per year so it was a no brainer in our case.

We also upgraded after looking at what we spend on groceries, gas and restaurants in a typical year. This is why I love the Disboards, I wouldn't have thought to go back and check my rewards, assuming banks know how to do math, but you better believe I'm going to double-check my rewards balance.

We upgraded too. Thanks for the heads up in the calculation glitch. I'll have hubby look into this. :teacher:

With the Disney cc you can print out a yearly statement. I went through what we bought in 2011 and added another 1% to the categories that qualify and we should be at least $100 ahead each year not counting the first 3 months you get 5% back. To give you an idea we are going to WDW again in June and were just there in March we should have $250 off our tickets with rewards in just three months. It would have been more had we not just missed out last reservations 45 day window by 15 days or we would have had extra rewards from that trip.

So for us it paid for itself in the first month

I upgraded and we're crushing the upgrade cost :-) I put a lot of business travel on mine so the disney dollars are racking up.

Hi, we are thinking about getting the Disney/Chase Premier cc (the one with the yearly fee).

On one of the review sites it states that you can pay your DVC yearly dues (I think they mean Maintenance Dues) with the rewards points. Has anyone done this yet? Does anyone know if it's a good use/value for the rewards points?

Thank you for any information!

Here is the actual quote from the site:

"Redemption Option for Disney Lovers

Plus, there are plenty of reward options for cardmembers to redeem with no blackout dates. Now, your spending is rewarded with Disney perks such as DVDs, toys, games, books, clothes, accessories, and collectables. Plus you can save on resorts and dining when enjoying your next Disney Vacation. You can also redeem for annual or season park passes, Disney Vacation Club annual dues and many more! "
