Charley has past through

Glad the worst is over Tony.

Tony and Feralpeg, glad to hear that you are both safe. Take care!

My parents live about 40 miles northwest of Orlando and DH's dad is right outside Tampa. They all decided to stay put in their houses during Charley. Needless to say we were on the phone a lot yesterday!

The last time I spoke to them at 9:30 pm my parents said the worse was over and all they had seen were some gusts of wind and rain, but nothing like Orlando it appears. They have a doublewide and considered going to a shelter when Charley veered north, but it was already too late. Then they heard the shelters were full of folks who were evacuated from Tampa - so there was no more room anyway.

They were more worried about the rash of tornadoes that were being reported.

So our parents seemed to have fared well unless something happened overnight! I didn't sleep much which is why I am dissing at 4:30 am. Sheesh.

Tony & Feralpeg I am so glad you are ok!!

My guest's in our home in The Formosa Gardens area were very nervous. From what they could tell in complete darkness we lost most of our pool screen. They are going to look around this morning and call us. Dh maybe on his way down today.

Has the news reported damage from that area.

Dh is hoping we didnt lose any of our big tree's on our 34 acres in Clermont.

My best friend is in Palm Coast and I havent spoken with her since 9:30 last night.

We have said many a prayer for all those in the area's Charley hit.

Tony, Feralpeg and everyone else that had to ride the storm out, I'm glad you're all okay. You still have a ton to deal with I'm sure, but hopefully the worst is behind you and you have sunny skies today.

Hugs to you all.

Thanks for letting us know you are o.k. Tony and other Florida residents!

??venice area
My parents have a place in the venice area.
Thankfully they are up in massachusetts right now. Does anyone know how hard it hit the Venice area??? thanks

anyone know how the parks fared yet? It would be horrible if the magic kingdom got torn apart.... or for that matter I can just see Mickey's sorceror hat being ripped clean off the ground

Last night on our local news they showed a camera a few miles outside of Epcot, you could see the Ball (it looked very similar to the view from the one DISer who is building a new house and she has her picture in her signature and the Epcot ball is behind it.) Anyway, it must have been national footage because I don't know why Baltimore news would have a camera in Orlando and it started at like 4:00pm and went progressively through 11:30pm and showed Charley come through. It was hard to really see once it got dark and all the rain was on the camera, but I could tell when it stopped that the ball was still standing ;)

Sorry for rambling :)

Hope everyone is fairing ok today. Please post all you Floridians and let us know that you're ok.

Here in New Orleans we are below sea level. A hurricane like this could leave us under 10-18 feet of water and they estimate it will take weeks to get the pumps running and empty the city out. There will be nothing left. (Since we are under sea level, we having pumping stations and canals that pump the water to the lake...water cannot run off in our city). I will NEVER stay in the city and ride out a bad hurricane. Though the last one we evacuated for, Georges, left us in the path of the storm anyway...but at least not underwater. I will still take hurricanes over tornadoes..at least we have warning.

My prayers go out to those who suffered. Sounds like some of the people who died were in mobile homes and refused to evacuate. Pretty ignorant.

Unfortunatley unless you lived through this stuff in the past (or were too close to one....ie. for us it was Andrew)...you really don't know what they're capable of.

It's a darn shame. As soon as they post warnings in our area the first places that are told to evacuate are mobile home parks. It's all too sad that so many think they are safe in them. The scary thing about this storm is that so many storm shelters were damaged, sheesh...what do you do! (still don't stay in a mobile home).
