CHecking in from Okeechobee (if you look at florida you'll see a hole in the middle... that's the lake. I live directly north of it 1 mile)...
It's been raining off and on here and from the looks of it, might just swerve this-a-way. Right now it's deadly quiet with no wind whatsoever and it's overcast with orange skies... All this at 2 in the evening. Might be my last post for a while so i'll leave with my zip code if you guys wanna watch on weather.com... it's 34974
Best of luck to the rest of the fellow floridians and everyone else; have a magical day! LMAO

I was talking to my niece about an two hours ago and said that Charley may just turn right and head straight across the state to Okeechobee then back out into the Atlantic and reek havoc on the east coast...I have seen them do this before...Stay safe.

Just sending a prayer to everyone to stay safe, and DON'T DRIVE THROUGH LARGE AREAS OF WATER in your car. Stay home and ride the storm out here on the DIS.

Please stay safe everyone! PD:wizard: heading your way.

Checking in from the Tampa area. Officially a cat 4, according to weather.com and www.baynews9.com. They should probably evacuate, the transmitter and station are right on the tampa bay, just south of the Gandy Bridge.

We started getting some rain an hour ago, but it has stopped for now. If you look at the clouds, you can definitely see banding.

Unfortunately, we have no TV. Renting this house while ours is being built and DH can't break into the cable box to use the coax for the Direct TV. I don't think Brighthouse will come hook up today! Just kidding. I'm going to try to keep online as long as there isn't any lightning, then switch over to the radios.

Cat4 is bad news...my mom got evacuate from St.Pete Beach and the expected storm surge will probably wipe out her community. At least she's here and I don't have to worry about them. Guess I have good timing, moved to this house (from Maryland) two weeks ago!

The family prankster was Uncle Charlie-we are having a good laugh at him 'causing' such grief.

Another really unfortunate result of this sudden turn east is that so many of the people that evacuated from Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties did so right to where it's now appearing to gonna hit - Polk County.

We feel fortunate that we dodged yet another bullet with the storm surge into Tampa Bay, but we feel for our neighbors to the South. Here in Eastern Hillsborough County, we're still going to get some of it...

stay safe everyone:( I'm saying some extra prayers:(

Stay safe everyone !! sending prayers

I have close family in Key Largo. They boarded up, but they said it hasn't been that bad and things are starting to clear up there. I'm thankful that they're all right but I'm worried for the areas predicted to get a direct hit.

Checking in from Lakeland. We've had a little rain so far and there is a tornado watch for NE Polk County (where we are) but we're doing okay.

Its shifted course again. Its moving more northward than east again.

This thing is more confused than a New England blizzard.
Saying prayers and hoping everyone in the affected areas stay safe.

Guess what? Looking at the latest radar from local stations has Charley jogging just enough north to put the EYE OF CHARLEY right over the ROOF OF MY HOUSE in about 1 hour. Go figure.

John

My prayers are with everyone in Florida right now. I know it must be horribly frightening!

Checking in from Port Charlotte, weather is getting very bad. We are supposed to get a direct hit. We are bunkering down and will go to safe room in the next 30-45 min. Pressure is dropping and storm is getting stonger will check back when I can might be a long while. Stay safe, Dina

Gosh - Dina - right in the heart of it.

My best wishes and prayers to everyone who may be affected by this storm.

Stay safe everybody!!
So, Barry knew ahead of time. I knew he knew more than he puts on.

Stay safe, good wishes, everyone.
