That wasn't a hurricane, lol! I grew up on Long Island and got a few encounters with the big winds. I was shocked that the Federal Gov't. closed when DC is that far inland! The rain was milder than a typical Florida thunderstorm!
We dodged the bullet here...and lets hope the other two tropical depressions go far, far away.

What surprised me about Isabel were all the closings before the storm hit--gov't, schools (at least Mont Co), metro. I left my oldest at home with the younger kids and went furniture shopping. NO winds even until afternoon and the schools maybe could have done an early closing, but sure didn't need to close for the whole day. As to the storm itself, we had heavy winds, lots of rain and many people without power that lasted for days. Not fun, but nothing like the direct hit that people have had to deal with from Charley, of course.
