We just a booked a trip to a beach area for December we will be close to Charleston and about a 2 hour drive from Savanah.

Any ideas on things to do with kids in the area?
We've been to the Aquarium. But we've never done any of the tours. Any that are good for kids(ages 4,7,12,15) Also any other ideas of places we shouldn't miss please let me know

Basically tell me everyting about that area please that you know!

If you are near Charleston, I think the kids would get a kick out of the Forts: Fort Moultrie and Fort Sumter. I lived there for 5 years and never made it to Fort Sumter and I had wanted to go the entire time I was there. My parents never made the time and my particular classes were never scheduled to do a field trip there, so I missed it.

There are the carriage rides as well.

Not sure where you are from. The beach may be a bit chilly in December. You never know what the wacky weather will bring.

On my most recent trip, my sister and I did a tour of memory lane--we hit all the places we lived in Charleston and then headed downtown. I did take the kids to the marketplace which they enjoyed but we didn't do the touring stuff.

For more history--the plantations are wondeful. My favorite was Middleton. I was allergic to Magnolia plantation, but the flowers should'nt be blooming at that time. But my only memories are of allergy attacks there.

The Citadel is pretty neat as well if you have any boys who are into military stuff. I believe they have a museum.

I apologize that I am not of help for the coastal area as we lived inland. But I truly enjoy Charleston for its History. North and South was filmed there and I just get all ga ga for that aspect of Charleston.

My favorite beach that we went as a family was Isle of Palms--we did not like Folly Beach and did not go to any other beaches.

We are heading to Kiawah. We've been in December a few years ago and know it's not swimming weather. But we love walking on the beach and enjoying all the restaurants that we normally can't get into in the summer because of crowds.

I never thought about the Citadel that's a great idea! And we have not done the forts either. So that's another thought. Thanks for the ideas! Keep them coming.

go to James Island State Park!! It is WONDERFUL. We go pretty much every year to see the Christmas lights. Your kids will love it, they have all kinds of activities and the Christmas lights are amazing.

:thumbsup2 THANKS! That looks like something we would love too! And the "carnival" on the 30th is right up my alley! thank you!

We did a light show the year we went but I don't think it was James Island. There were definately no rides.
