Hi,

I remember looking earlier this year, probably March for a possible stay in Charleston, SC using DVC points. I thought that there were 2 or 3 options of places to stay, I can't remember if it was using the Concierge collection or Interval International, but I can't seem to find anything in Charleston now.

Does anyone have any information on this, has DVC gotten rid of the locations in Charleston?

Thanks in advance!

Charleston Place was part of the Concierge Collection until this year when it was 'streamlined' off of the now very pared down list of exchanges.

We loved our stay at CP and wanted to do it again. Then we saw it's absence from the points chart.

There are 2 resorts in Charleston, both on the II list but not on the DVC exchange list likely due to limited availability. One is Lodge Alley Inn (Bluegreen) and the other is Church Street Inn (Festiva). Neither are full service resorts but both are good choices for Charleston. I'd say the best option to stay there is to find an owner with one system or another and do a private exchange. I'd put LAI as the best option both as a better resort and as the option to stay other than a 7 day exchange if you work privately with a BG members. On top of that, both resorts are in II and RCI and it appears that RCI gets the bulk of the deposits overall. I've exchanged in to Church Street Inn for shoulder season, I'd recommend both resorts.

I own at Lodge Alley Inn, It is a wonderful resort. We stay there by the night when we want to tour Charleston and be a visitor in our own town. Both of the Resorts that Dean mentioned are in walking distance of all the Local favorites and the Historic district. You can't go wrong with either one. The restaurants, sightseeing, shopping all there.

We stayed in the Charleston Place on points before it came off the conceirge collection, it's gorgeous and right in the center of everything.

It's a real shame that they took it off the list, it is a place I'd gladly pay the $95 exchange fee and use points by night for.:worried:

Hi everyone,

Thank you for the information. I remember looking at Charleston Place earlier this year and thought it looked great. I wanted to plan a trip their as a birthday surprise for my BF, but now I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I had noticed how "streamlined" the list of exchanges seemed to get this year, I was a little disappointed. :(

I'll look into doing a private exchange and see how that works out.

Does anyone have a suggestion on where to go to find someone who might be interested in a private exchange?

Thanks!

So glad I found this thread! was hoping to be able to "pick" Dean's brain about this~ we just returned from a wonderful stay at Marriott's Ford Manor Club, in Williamsburg, VA~ delightful trip, and a great trade (in our opinion)..

Trying to decide whether to go to Charleston in June next year or VB~ and found this thread.. how do I trade individually? and how do I know that it will be an "even trade" (resort as nice as what we are accustomed to)

Thanks so much! we are using our AKL points in the fall for a week concierge, and may do more historical sight seeing next summer... just not sure how to go about it if where we wish to go is not in the "trade menu"

thanks in advance, kat:yay:

To trade privately you must find someone that has or can get what you want. A lot of trust goes in to such a transaction. Given the uncertainties of a trade, I'd do VB given those choices though I do love Charleston.

how do I use the sites that I have read so much about? Redweek, etc?.. I am not as comfortable trading one on one either... I just need to know more about this, and all of the options that I have. I try to read alot of posts that pertain to this issue, and I will be honest, some times I am not "getting" it! thanks for any help or direction that you can offer.

I am a planner, and like to know all the "ins and outs"... these boards were the ticket for us in deciding and purchasing.. we just should have done it sooner, but now it is time for me to learn all the options of a time share.

Like renting, trading privately requires a certain amount of trust. It does help if one is the first to travel of the two sides. You simply need to find someone who has or can get what you want. With most of these sites you need to join to have access but all I mentioned are free to very cheap to do so. One thing you could do would be to put in a request for Charleston (or whatever you want), reserve VB when you can with your points then keep looking if you want with II or direct exchanges and use the points tied with for VB if you find an II match or a private exchange that works for you.

Thank you so much for your help and information~ do you suggest a particular site that I can gain more information from? thanks so much, kat

Charleston has a web site www.charleston.com it will help navigate you through the city. There are wonderful Historic houses that have been turned into Bed and Breakfasts'. I have just booked "The Palmer House" for my Son's Rehearsal Dinner next March. It is decorated in 200 year old antiques. It is right on The Battery with a view of Ft. Sumter. It is 3 stories with the bedrooms on the third, for a wonderful view w/Piazzas. The second has the Living areas with Piazzas (porches).
There is a Visitors Center also that will probably be helpful with information. I am sure they will be glad to send you some. If, I can assist you with any phone number, just PM me, I will be glad to look some up for you.

I spent the day in Charleston yesterday, If I can assist you in anyway, please let me know.
