Charity Point Donation

no.

you can donate a reservation that is already made to certain charities (but i don't believe you can write anything off for taxes).

I wasn't looking for a tax deduction. Timshares aren't tax deductable donations ( I don't believe). I thought maybe a charity may have bought an ownership and then point donations could be made to them.

DVC should set something up.

Wouldn't that be nice if Disney had a place to give unused points, like Make a Wish, so someone could make good use of those 5 or 10 points that we aren't going to use this year? If all of us pooled those odd left-over points, we'd be able to make a real difference in the lives of lots of kids! Sadly, there is nothing, but I would sure donate some points if they did. I would even forego the tax deduction on a small donation, if I had to. Maybe someone reading this would know how to do something like this.:confused3

yeah, that would be nice.

from time to time, DVCers are looking for small point transfers to complete a reservation. if you haven't used up your annual transfer, that would be a helpful thing to do with leftover pts. (but that transfer rule would most likely limit charities owning DVC since they could only accept one transfer per year.)

I didn't know there was a 1 time per year limit on transfers. I guess that would put a damper on it.

you can make a reservation and give the charity that reservation.

This is what I did. I called Give the Kids the World, and offered them a weekend stay at OKW. They have special facilities nearby doctors, etc. so their clients can't use the ordinary villas of DVC, but they have many dedicated volunteers who could use a "Thank you." It was arranged, and I got a lovely thank you. I'm glad we did it...you may not have enough for a whole weekend, but maybe a weekday stay, something can be arranged. I know we're glad to continue to have a relationship with this wonderful organization.

I only have 9 points left so I would have to combine it with someone elses' points.

It would be a great idea if Disney would set up an account where members could donate points to be used by Make a Wish or another deserving charity. I'm sure the account could be set up to where the charity account has unlimited transfers in and it would not count as a transfer out to the donating member. I would be happy to donate a few points to a worthy cause. It wouldn't take many members donating 5 or 10 points to add up to a week's stay.

What are these "unsued points" that you speak of?:rotfl2:

seriously though, it would be a great idea, even if I'm already borrowing from 2010 :)

So, who would administer this account? Disney? Then we would pay Disney to administer the account. How do they decide who gets the points? Us? Disney? The specific members who donated the points?

DVC would rather these few points just expire and not get used.
