Charging to the room vs carrying disney Visa?

With the new bands, I am considering going bagless this year, most of the days at least. I generally like to charge everything to the room even when I have my card with me in previous sore- shoulder-purse years. Is there a reason I am forgetting that I should carry the card and my ID? I will take it on EC day to do the photo thing. Is it worth paying on the spot for food, snacks, etc with the visa vs paying the room balance off with it?

It's always possible the system goes down or your band won't work. Having your CC as a backup never hurts.

You should always carry an ID.

The only reason to consider using your Disney VISA is that some places - and it's somewhat inconsistent - will offer a 10% discount when you use it. By inconsistent I mean it seems to vary. I've always though there was a minimum purchase but I've gotten the discount buying food at a counter service place (1 time out of the last 10) and buying a couple of pins. So it sort of seems up to the person ringing you up.

But typically I just use the room key unless we're spending very much in a merchandise store and then I use the Visa and specifically make sure we get the discount.

As for ID... we were at Disneyland last week and didn't stay on property. So I used our Visa for everything. It was inconsistent as to how often I was asked to show an ID. Like I'd buy some churros and drinks and would be asked for ID... but then I'd spend $40 on a counter service meal and not be asked for it. So I'd take it just to be safe.

When we went in June, we kept our Disney Visa with us. If we spent over $50.00, we were able to get 10% off just by showing our card. We were still able to charge to the room with our magic bands - just had to show that we had the Disney Visa to get the discount.

Magic Bands or not, Disney or otherwise, I always carry an ID, one credit or debit card, and my health insurance card.

You can go bagless and still have your card and ID. Take the card and your ID out of your wallet and stick it in your shorts pocket. It's so thin, its not uncomfortable. I have those small pockets they are putting on ladies shorts now, and I can comfortably carry my visa, my id, and two Kleenexes. My phone is in my hand until I ride, in which case I stick it in my pocket. My hair bow is on my wrist until I am ready for it. You don't need a bag to carry a few things.

Yeah, forgot about my phone. Will probably still carry a small cross body to put that away on rides. In all the years I have carried my ID at the parks, I have never been asked to show it. I'm sure I will carry it again anyway. Just raised that way...

as for getting the discount by showing card, but still charging to the room, very good to know. Thanks :)

is the magic band only linked to your room or can it be linked to your cc instead?

It is always smart to carry ID no matter what you are doing. I would never go without it as there are a number of reasons you may need it.

I like bagless but I tend to carry the Disney Visa because even if the DV is the card on your resort account, you will not get the discount for using it in the gift shops or resturants unless you actually have the Visa.

(this year I've had an AP so the DV is not as important but in all my other trips it's been my only discount option)

I carry a little wristlet in my pocket with a $20 dollar bill, id, DV, DL, and insurance card. That's just basic. On my last trip I was offsite so I also carried my AAA card and insurance verification.

Nothing is linked to your Magic Band. All of your reservation information is on your MDE account, and your Magic Band can then access that information. You can then set up charging to your room and then use the Magic Band to pay for your purchases (you also have to set up a PIN).

I carried my Disney Visa so when my total was over $50 at a shop, I could pay with it and get my discount. Otherwise we charged to the room.

If you are putting all of your room charges on your Disney Visa you still get the discount, correct?

At the time of the transaction, you must present your Disney Visa to receive the discount. The Visa discount is subtracted from the subtotal.
