I have been staying in Disney resorts for years but one thing I have never done is set up to charge to my room key, but I think this amy make life a little easier I mean one less card to carry around. Anywho was wondering how this worked, How much can you charge, when do they charge to my debit/credit card I would be putting on file and how much would they be authorizing and putting a hold on my card for or do they even do that? I don't like holds on my CC/debit cards.

When you check-in at the Resort with the credit card you give them you can set up charging privileges, which will be added to your bill and that credit card when you check-out. At the Value Resorts the spending limit is $500, at the Moderate Resorts the limit is $1000 and the Deluxe Resorts the limit is $1500. I believe if you reach the spending limit you can have it reset or something.

I don't know what the hold amounts are, sorry.

Your card will be charged each time you hit the threshhold amount for your type of resort:

Value: $500
Moderate: $1000
Deluxe and DVC: $1500

Room Charging:

1) Place a credit card for the room charges, or deposit cash into your account.
2) Charging limit is per room, not per room key or per person.
. . . $500 for Values
. . . $1,000 for Moderates
. . . $1,5000 for Deluxe/DVC
3) Once the limit reached, have your credit card charged.
4) Charging limit reverts to zero.
5) There is no "hold" or "reserve" on you card.
. . . you give the card to Front Desk or Concierge Desk
. . . they run the card through the card reader
. . . they computer "pings" the credit card
. . . the account is verified, but no charge or hold is made
6) You can have different credit cards for different room keys
. . . different people can charge their own cards
. . . you don't have to collect their charges at the end of the trip
. . . example: mom and adult daughter can have different cards charged

NOTE: If you have Express Checkout, there is a room charging balance due, and the credit card will not accept the final charges
. . . there will be a letter under your door
. . . your should go to Front Desk and make other arrangements or other card
. . . if you walk out without clearing the charge, you get a letter at home

After years of going to WDW, we just started taking advantage of this perk. It is very convenient and we don't have to worry about losing our credit card in the park. Plus, you get to see exactly how much you spent before you check out (and then spend your whole trip home worrying about how to pay the bill). ;)

You can also set limits for each card. We put a little bit on my daughter's card and allow her to spend her own money for souvineers. By the way, the card will be charged on theday of your check out.

If you reach your limit before you check-out, you must go to the front desk and pay your charges. They will not automatically bill your cc until check-out time.

1) You got lucky.
2) Room keys are either charging or non-charging.
3) Charge limits are per room, not per room key.
4) Multiple room keys cannot have different charge limits.

NOTE: There is one exception to this, but I doubt your room was set up for it.

Can you set your room charge up with cash in advance? I don't like using my credit cards either. Thanks Annie:hippie:

No plastic required. You can also back up a room charge with CASH, travelers checks or Disney Dollars.

First couple of visits used this but then I really needed to be on a budget. By doing room key charging you do not see the money leave your hands. I now use cash. we only go to the parks with a little more than we would need for the day. We budget about $100/day. When we used the key we would spend atleast $300 more per trip.

Now if you plan on using a credit card anyway and do not have a budget. Then by all means use the "KEY"

What if you put $500 cash on your card and you do not use it all. ( I know dream on ) But lets say you have some left. Is it just refunded the last day?

So if your at a moderate resort, and you don't spend up to 1,000 dollars. Your account won't be charged until checkout?

Correct. Your credit limit for your stay will be $1000 but your credit card won't be charged for whatever amout you use until you check out (or reach your credit limit).

Just got back from AKL & CSR. We hit our limit during our stay at CSR and all we had to do was call (since we were busy in the parks). They immediately put our charges through and allowed an additional amount in credit. We charged EVERYTHING to our room...it was super easy to only have to carry around 1 card!

Well, it'll be around 2 or 3 in the morning of your check-out day rather than the instant that you check-out. However, you can continue to use that room charge through 11:59 p.m. on your check-out day.

In other words, you set up a room charge on Day 1. By the end of your trip on Day 7, you made 48 separate room charge transactions, which totaled $975. Your card will be charged one single time for that $975 total. You will NOT see 48 separate charges on your credit card statement for the week, you will not see charges for $300 every few days, etc.

AT any time during your stay, you can go to the front desk and get an up-to-the-minute printout of your room charge account activity, including a running total. It will give details of each transaction, so you can check it for accuracy. It will tell you the total amount of the purchase, as well as the time and date and location of the purchase and the "number" of the card that was used (if you and your spouse each have room charging privileges on your room keys, one will be card #1 and the other will be card #2; you can decide whether or not each person in your party will have room charging privileges). The print-out does NOT list each individual item that makes up the total transaction amount. In other words, you can know that your wife spent $50.25 at The Emporium yesterday at 3:02 p.m., but you can't know what items or how many items comprised that $50.25 purchase.

1) Husband and wife can have purchases applied to different credit cards.
2) Example: Husband applies charges to his MasterCard and wife to her VISA.
3) This is very convenient
. . . to keep purchases recorded more easily
. . . when one or the other is on business and the spouse is on pleasure
. . . when a mother & daughter travel together and want separate charges

Can you use a Disney gift card to pay the balance at the end of the trip if you've used your KTTK card for charging items to the room?
