i'm thinking of using my resort id for all my meals and purchases at wdw. from what i understand, you can use them almost anywhere--restaurants, snack stands, resort shops, etc. is there anywhere you can't use them?? what about the shops at dtd marketplace?? it seems like it would be much easier than carrying lots of cash or travelers checks!! thanks for your advice!!! ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

There are a few soda/ice cream carts that do not accept cc/or id charges

everywhere else should be no problem

On our last trip, we used the room key, even for our purchases at DTD! We also had all of those purchases sent back to our room! We love using the room key. It is so much better (and safer) than carring all of that cash!

Dito on our last trip on Feb 6 -10. It was just great. I even asked before I left the front check in desk about who didn't accept the card and they said that now everyone does. I said even the little carts and they said yes. Now we used it for our first gift which was a buzz light saver for my son and the women just took the card and swiped it and made me sign one slip and she kept the other. At the end of our trip I got a run down of everything that I charged to the card and checked it with my slips. Everything was perfect nothing extra on or missing. Much easier than carrying cash or a visa card.
I would recommend it to anyone.

We did this last year and it was HEAVEN!!! And that was BEFORE they started accepting them at the carts, etc. It was SO simple to just give them the little card, sign the slip and be on our way! Also, the idea of having all our stuff sent back to our resort is just SO cool!!! We didn't lug anything around with us and everything was safe and sound when we returned in the evening! I really like how Disney tries to make things more convenient. Of course, we're buying THEIR stuff--but if I don't have to lug it around, it's totally worth it (and of course I spend MORE!) :rotfl:

We were able to use them at several of the little carts around... to buy popcorn, Cokes, etc. They even accept them at the McDonald's at Downtown Disney! :cool1:

I always use my room key for everything - it is a very easy way to keep track of entire cost of trip.

Works great for me.

Ok Dumb question...but do you need a credit card on file with the resort to use your key room to pay for everything?

Yes you do. And I believe that each resort has a different max that they get approval for. Value-$500, Mod-$1000, Deluxe-$1500. Please correct me if I'm wrong...?

So, since we will be 7 days, shopping /dining could easily meet/exceed
max approval, does the resort notify you so you can pay that bill, and then reapprove if necessary for your remaining days?

That's a good question... I'm not sure! I would like to know the answer to that one too... Anyone else??

I was told, a couple of years ago, that when you have used up the pre-approved amount, you must go ahead and let them charge that amount to your credit card (or pay it in cash) then they can get another pre-approval (if you charged it to the credit card) or let you continue charging (if you pay the bill with cash). This may have changed since this info was given to me... :confused3

tifandjim- (hi! :wave2: ) You are right about once you meet the maximum. I don't think you can charge any more until that maximum is cleared.

So my question to all this is, are we allowed to charge the pleasure island AP we are planning on buying, with the hotel key/card? I don't want to use the credit card anymore than I have to since we will be using the hotel key/card for most of the trip....

(hi pumpkinfish! ) but do they let you know? or do you pretty much have to keep track yourselves? :confused3 we are very much looking forward to charging meals, snacks, prizes, pretty much everything to our room so we can just relax and enjoy :goodvibes

that's very cool! how nice it will be to just use your room key and not have to worry about..."honey is your wallet in your FRONT pocket?" "did you get your credit card back?" "you don't want to carry that around all day, let's come back later (you forget, and never do :sad1: ) we have all been down this road before I'm sure! ps just for the record, we are only 60 days from our trip, and because of all of your help :disrocks: , a little pixie dust :wizard: I am so excited I could pee my pants! :cheer2:

One thing though. If you don't want them to charge your credit card, be sure to pay your total off the NIGHT before you departure. When I was there in January I put a cc down just in case I didn't carry enough money one day and told them I did not want them to charge my cc and if I used it I would pay the balance before I left. They said no problem. It was funny, because I didn't use it until our last full day when I bought a little more than I planned at DTD. I got up early the morning of our departure and went downstairs to pay my balance and they had already charged my cc. They said they will charge your card around 2:00am the morning you are to check out. They offered to credit my card back, but I told them not to worry about it. It wasn't that big a deal, as it was only a hundred dollars or so.

I don't mind the c/c charge, in fact I bank on it, since my mileage points got me free airline tickets for the trip :cheer2: I've been doing this for years, charge everything, pay the statement in full at the end of the month, you'd be surprised (and terrified, I might add, how quickly the points add up :scared1:  ) I have saved a fortune on this trip with mileage points, AP discounts, etc. If you havn't got one yet--get a mileage card I have MBNA--no restrictions, blackout dates, etc. :goodvibes

You have to keep track of the amount charged to your room - if you exceed the amount the card will be denied. It is simple to check with the front desk when you think you are getting close, and if you are near or at the limit they can put the charge through and you can use the room card again. These cards are accepted anywhere in the World where there is a cash register. There are only a few remaining snack carts which only accept cash.

Well I know we could easily keep track of how much we spend with the little receipts they give us. It is different when we pay cash at times, use the debit card, AND use the credit card.
I am looking forward to just putting it all on one tab!

...but I still wonder if we can charge the pleasure island passes to the room...

Just a little update... We just got back from our trip on Sunday. The McDonald's at Downtown Disney does NOT accept your room key anymore. They will still accept regular credit cards though. However, the Earl of Sandwich does accept them.
