Charging Items to Room?

It is quite probable that the manager guy did in fact call it "guest services" and not "concierge." I probably just used the word "concierge" and heard the word "concierge," since that's what that kind of desk is called at other non-WDW hotels. Although we've stayed many many times at WDW, I'd never really understood that desk was "guest services" too, which is a term that usually makes me think of the windows near the parks.

Anyway, since that is the official disney-ism for that particular kind of desk, the guy we spoke to appeared to me to be the type who would use the correct disney-speak. So my direct quote attributed to "DJ" is probably not a quote at all; just what I thought I heard.

But, in any event, whatever it's called, the only point was that perhaps my recent experience with having the credit card pre-authorized was unusual, because the place where we were checked in did not appear to be a typical or common checking in place and the professional doing the checking in did not appear to be someone who did that frequently. (Either that or perhaps I looked particularly untrustworthy. ;0) ) I now wish I'd avoided this thread entirely, because although I thought I'd had something interesting to add, it looks only to have created confusion!

As the original poster you did not confuse me lark, if thats any consolation. :)

Anyone know the limit for staying at a Disney Vacation Club resort, specifically OKW?

Looks like a pretty neat way to pay for things at the park. Would limit the amount of cash/credit cards I would need to carry (and possibly) lose at the park.

Could we just charge everything that day and at night when we come in just asked for an itemized list of the days charges and authorize them sending it on in? Is that how it does, or could work for us? Thanks for all the replies!

DVC Resorts are also $1500.

You can pay off your balance every night, either have them send a charge through or with cash/travelers checks.

Oh, ok. So we can still pay cash if we desire to do so each time instead of them forcing it on through onto the credit/debit card? Lots of options it sounds like.

What happens if you lose it? I'm thinking this sounds so easy, but do you sign anything? I am afraid of losing my visa but at least I know if it is charged excessively they will stop it and not charge us. What is Disney's policy on a lost card?

And Lark, Want to make sure you don't ever feel that you shouldn't post to any message. Thanks for sharing your experience and I for one understood what you were saying and am curious about how that happened. I would bet that that may have happenend to someone else somewhere down the line. By the way how did the 1500.00 come off your bill or did you spend that much? You don't have to answer if that is too personal

;)

Too Funny about the limits based on your resort. Seems to me they should be reversed since if you stayed at a Value you would have MORE money to spend on other stuff.

It's not true that the card is no longer good when you check out. You can use it until midnight that day.

We didn't come close to using the whole amount. On my online credit card statement when we got home, it looked like a $1500 charge and then later a $1250 credit, and then a second charge for some mini bar stuff we had on the last day but that they apparently didn't know about until later in the day. But when I looked at it tonight, it now just looks like a $260 charge. I assume that's how it will look on my paper bill.

You simply stop at the Front Desk and get a replacement! :)

For those of us in Canada, with Canadian credit cards (at least with mine), I get charged a fee for charges that are converted from US$ to CDN$, so charging everything on our room key and then paying in one charge at the end saves me multiple service fees!!

Also, if you lose your card, just call the front desk from the parks or wherever you are and they will deactivate the card on the spot by printing you a new card. That's another tip my mother thought of...keep a slip of paper with you with the hotel phone number and your room number on it. I had to call the hotel to leave a message for my sister, and when I got to the pay phone I had no idea what the hotel number was, or what room number I was staying in!! (and I thought I was organized...)

I also stopped by the front desk to get printouts occasionally and compare to my receipts (boy, those charges add up fast!!) and that helps me keep track of the spending.
